Would anyone happen to know where i can get a cheap, cheap, under $1500 13spd? I don't need it to be remanufactured, or rebuilt because i plan on doing that myself. One located in Florida would be ideal, but I'm pretty sure i can get dispatch to route me through any city to pick it up.

I've found some online, but there's like a $1500 core charge, and i'm not sure how a core charge works. Don't really know if I pay the price plus core charge when i pick it up, and then i get the core charge back when i send in the core. Or if the price is just the price, and the core is what i get back once i send in the core..

The whole core deal wouldn't work because i have a 10spd ultrashift.. Any info will be appreciated.

A Core Charge is charged at the time you purchase the item, unless you already have the Core with you at the time of purchase. If you don't have the Core or don't plan on turning a Core in, you will be Charged a Core Charge and that will be included in the total purchase price.

Since you don't have a 13 Speed Core, the total will be the Purchase Price, plus the Price of the Core.

Your best bet is to find a Private Party or Business that is parting out a truck with the part that you need, and will not or doesn't care about a Charging a Core Charge.

You will also need to shorten your Driveshaft for the 13 speed conversion.

North florida in lake city should have what you need, but they will want a core also. Keep in mind if you buy used for rebuild, if you find bad gears you are gonna be out more money in the long run. Best to find a wrecked truck someone private is parting out.

Thanks for all of the info everyone.. seems like my best option right now is to buy a case (found one on LKQ) and build it from the ground up.. I was considering just sticking with the 10spd and converting it from an auto to a manual, but that's a no go because it has an auto clutch (no pedal in the cab) and there's no room in the bellhousing to put a slave cylinder or throwout bearing.

Time to start pricing some gears, if it turns out to be more to build with case and from ground up, then i'll just have to have dispatch route me by one of LKQ's salvage yards and put up a 13spd and take the hit in the pocket. Maybe later i'll be able to sell my auto once i do the swap.

It will be cheaper to buy a new trans from the manufacturer than to build from an empty case. I just did my 13spd. I had 3 sets of gears that were bad (9 actual gears) $900. Thats only half of the front case alone. Then you have all the rear welded gear sets, high, low, and the syncro. The rebuild kits ( just bearings, gaskets not one gear or syncro) is $535.

Thanks driver.. I started pricing gears and from a case to a fully working gear box excluding shifter, clutch, and clutch pedal, it's pretty much going to be the same as me buying a remain.. The only reason i want to build one so bad is for the knowledge gained. I could easily save for a remain by the time i plan on doing the swap next fall (planning an inframe in the same month), but i wouldn't have the knowledge, and understanding of how these big ole transmissions work.. I have a general ideal, but that's kinda it. And since i plan on running this truck (at least the frame and drive train) for a long long time, I want to know what went into everything, unlike when the TA changes my oil and i sware they left 3gals of the old oil in there instead of draining ALL of it out.

But again, thanks for the links.
