Good afternoon everyone. I have been a member here for several years and love the articles that get posted as well as the responses that follows shortly after. This is my first post. I don't know what took me so song, but here it is. I am very interested in learning what it takes to replace a sleeper for one that is larger and more comfortable. Any one here do any of their own work. It is a good way to save your hard earned money, though in some cases worth the expense of letting someone more qualified handle it. I have done several searches online to see if anyone has done so and if they have video taped or photographed their adventure. I am not tackling this project, but the process does interest me. I did run into a thread where some one converted their pickup with a sleeper. I guess that would be a "Hotshot" conversion? A good friend of mine does that, but does not have a sleeper. I would be interested in seeing that as well. One last question, am I in the right thread for this conversation? Thanks for any input you have.

I did one for a buddy of mine several yrs ago, the biggest issue was lining up the sleeper with the cab, riveting both together and installing/adjusting air bags to maintain the same level..(so they would not stress and pull apart)...

We also sanded and painted the whole unit...

Never expected a reply so quick. Thank you. There are probably a couple different schools of thought on this. Is it better to do all of the interior work and exterior prep work while the sleeper is not on the chasis or vice versa? It would seem that there could be advantages to either way.

Both units were acquired from pieces laying an a field... It was cleanup, mount sand and paint..

4 days, 3 guys working and buddies wife overseeing9cracking the whip)..

Truck was out pulling a trailer day after we finished the paint..(dont even think it was fully dry, no oven)...

Nice. It's always a good idea to have a supervisor on hand to oversee things. I'm kinda curious about units with a small sink and shower. How big are the fresh water tanks and where are they located?

I'm still looking for videos and/or pictures of the process of changing out a standard sleeper for a custom sleeper. I find it rather interesting. Anyone have some thoughts on the subject?
