i have a 2015 w 900l kenworth with a 550 2050 torque cummins and i told cummins it wont pull like it should .They said i would have to put it on the dyno to check it and if its in there tolarance i would have to pay for the dyno run. So i asked them what does it have to put out to be in there tolarnce they said as long as it is putting out 440 horse they call it good .SO my question is what should this truck be putting out to the wheels with this motor horse power andtorque

Rule of thumb is 20% loss through the drive train? 80% of 550 is 440.

    Just to worn you ...

If the truck makes whatever hp number they say is normal even for 100 rpm it passes and you pay.....

    Doesn't help the drivability much....

Have your dealer flash your truck to the 600 hp 2050 torque file. Our 550 hp 2050 torque t800s didn't pull all that great either. Complained enough and dealer flashed 600 hp file and now they pull really good.

20% is a general guideline but that number is also wrong as driveline robs a certain amount of power to turn it, it doesnt take more power to turn a tranny and diffs as your engine horsepower goes up, average power loss through a driveline is 70-80 hp, that 550 if healthy and well tuned should put 470 to the ground. if you pay for dyno time you can request they bring it to the top of the tolerance chart. make sure you use a good dyno shop that has a good reputation and they will gladly do this

On a new truck if it meets the minimum number most dealers won't touch it. They call the oem rep who says it's within spec. So the answer is no...... You can request all you want .

it still doesnt change the fact that driveline loss is not 20%, that number worked back when hp was around 400-450 but was accurate, driveline loss is linear, it does not index itself as hp goes up, 70-80 hp loss is more accurate as long as there is no issues in the driveline, so a 550 should be putting down 470-480

cummins rep said they had no low power complaints on this motor they are telling me the truck is geared wrong it is 410 gears i told them gear ratio dont mater in lower gears along as you are in your power band.im tired of 500 pacars pulling up on me when they are close to same weight 66 to 67 kgs

I have always heard 15-20% parasitic loss thru the driveline. How is that good for a 400-450hp engine but doesn't apply to a 550hp engine? Just because a engine makes more power doesn't mean the driveline automatically has less parasitic drag.

Most likely they went to a percentage as not every truck has the same drivetrain components behind the engine, even the length of drive shafts can make a difference in power to the ground.
