Well, here we go; next installment in the continuing saga of the Oshkosh 6x6...
Without delving into the gory details, let me just say that the maiden voyage following installation of a 411C Jake Brake in my rig was a sad, sordid, and short-lived affair. With the motor sounding like hell and losing power fast, I limped it in to a general store in the middle of nowhere. After exhausting the easy options, I popped the valve cover off, and discovered a handful of bent and broken push tubes. AAAARGH.
Turns out my mechanic had tightened the injector adjustment screws out of sequence. Actually he was IN SEQUENCE, but 180 degrees opposite on every one. Eventually we figured out what was wrong, pulled the Jake heads and riser, fished the shrapnel out of the motor, R/R the trashed push-tubes, and replaced the bent adjustment screws with the OEM. Finally, I'm back to work, making up for lost time and expenses. Great, but still no Jake. Problem is, they want a thousand bucks for the adjustment screws, so I'm hoping to find them used somewhere...
So my question, to anyone familiar with Jakes, is which rigs use the same Jake Brake injector adjustment screws as my '99 Cummins ISM? The screws are hex head (not slotted for a screwdriver like the OEM) 9/16" 18tpi the only thing I could find from Jacobs listed a "SCREW ROCK ADJ PKGD 9/16-18 with a cummins #3072887 and a Jacobs #16627 and another by the same name with Cummins #3080759 and Jacobs #18929. And of course, nothing about application.
Maybe this is a Jacobs question, but since my truck is working again, I haven't had a minute off during working hours. And you guys are awesomer anyway, so I wanted to give you first shot!
Thanks!
