I am looking to get opinions between the per vin cab and rebuilding the rest of what you have and the glider kit and rebuilding most of what you have

I'm pretty sure he's trying to say should he order a full glider with frame and everything or just a new cab that is made per his vin exactly the way the original was.
It's almost impossible to answer that question as he gives no reason to need to replace the cab or what kind of shape the rest of the truck is in.

On top of that, what is the difference in price?

    Ukumfe Thanks this.

OK I am with him now. You are absolutely right. A lot of info needs to considered before making that kind of decision.

Newer totalled truck with straight frame rails, is about the only reason I know of for replacing the cab. Old truck = Glider kit.
I have 3 friends here who have successful trucking businesses.

#1 has 20 dump trucks, one of which is the 1968 Pete he started with. He has bought a few gliders, but for the most part his shop has constantly refurbished these trucks for years. Best paying non-union dump truck outfit in my neck of the woods!
    #2 Gliders and new trucks.
#3 New trucks that are replaced before 400k miles.
They all 3 have good shops and good mechanics/maintenance!

This is just what I have observed, Sub'd, in hopes of learning, in what situation a cab makes sense!

The truck in question is an 01 century condo. Its not horrible but the dash is just tired. The bottom of the truck is in good shape. A powered glider with a detroit spec'd close is $93,000. A bare glider is around $65,000. I am still waiting for the per vin cab price. Our shop is capable of completing any of the three.

What did you quoted on that glider? Im looking to use the power train I got on a 01; it's been rebuilt engine/trans, I thought it may be a good opportunity to get that. You said a Bare would run around $65.000? A rolling glider (with the rear end axles on) and no tranny, no engine, right?
Any Ideas on what would cost the in man hours to put it all together?

    Thanks,

Braazooka, I spec'd; Freightliner Columbia 120, the best radio, the best air seats, the apu installation kit, fairings, side skirts, 70 inch condo with single bed, fridge, good air dryer, heated davco fuel filter, coolant filter, bendix fan clutch, 500hp 12.7 Detroit with 3 year warranty, 150 gallon tanks, and the air liner suspension. I didn't ask about rears for the non powered glider.
BullDoggin, the dashboard is like most old century/Columbia trucks. The plastic is fatigued and broken in many places. Air lines, fittings, switches, and gauges fail because its all old.

Thanks Hammerstrap. My mind is on that. Since I saw that failure of signature truck that got me thinking about I would be either using a factory reman engine like yours for 93k or use whatever I've now and can trust (so far).
    Thanks and good luck.
