Sorry if this has been discussed before. I'm a newb to the forum, and could not find a similar thread via search.
Anyhoo.....I have owned and operated a 379 Peterbilt that I purchased new. I thought this truck was absloutely un-improvable in all aspects. Ferfectamundo
Fast forward a few years, and low and behold Peterbilt comes out with a 389. I'd like to hear from guys here who can offer firsthand knowledge of the differences from 379 to the 389. Pros, cons, etc
All I can see is that they sport a newer headlight design, but I havent been able to get inside the newer 389.
Having driven a few 359s back in the day, I could indeed tell a huge improvement in coming out with the 379......but the 389 seems like just a twin of the 379, but with new headlights
Better yet, curious on how many options there are with the new 389, to make them look close to a 379. You know, just like how guys were trying to clone their 379s to look like 359s.

Is that what those 389's are? I thought the 389 was that model that Wal-Mart seems to like and resembles the 377 a bit.

The 389 has the better headlights, set up to improve the air flow in that area, as well as a much more rounded hod and grille, done again for airflow. With fuel cost rising, it's getting to the point that their are less excuses for having a tractor that looks like one from the 1930's. No matter how you slice it, a classic style tractor from any brand is more expensive to drive because of the way it pushes the air around.

Where's all the 389 owners I was expecting to hear from? Must still be driving pre emision 379s I guess LOL -
Yeap, pushing a barn door through the air gets costly these days.
Maybe the hood and grille have been redesigned on this new penile extension to allow air to flow in certain ways. I know some of the new EPA-friendly engines run hotter. That problem could be addressed with new engine bay designs.
I just took a peek at one of those advertised online at Kansas City Peterbilt. You're right...it does look like it's nothing more than a chrome reshuffle, and I see very little of even that. It's called the "ultracab", btw.
This ad has interior pics of the dash and sleeper area, too. Sleeper looks good, but I don't like the dash or steering wheel much. The dash looks too much like some of the old Volvos I used to drive in the mid-90s. -
Still the best looking truck on the road though. W900L a very very close second.
