big sleepers

Im in Canada and here just like in the USA you can have them, our laws tolerate 283 wb all across canada, some places with permits, however some do have 300 wb, a close friend of mine has an fl classic at 301wb never been bothered but he runs only Quebec and Ontario and lower 48 USA, my dad has 300 wb with 132" legacy bunk, same deal, quebec Ontario and lower 48, my cousin has 300wb with 110" legacy...same deal, if you stay out of western canada they do not bother you. my truck is 270wb

 

I cant speak for furniture movers or the high end car haulers but in the flatbed world and in the heavy haul world we often load machinery thats dirty, and add that to hot temperatures, many times a few hours away from a decent shower... its real nice to be able to crawl in your own shower after your done loading before jumping behind the wheel, yes these bunks are best suited to specialty market

 

Anyone familiar with Aero Star custom sleepers or know if they are still in business?

 

They go to a lot they can fit on, and break it down into a smaller truck to get it where it's going. Moving companies have hired hands and small trucks locally to get this done.

 

My last truck had 315 inch WB,,it was 4 axles but I seldom had a problem getting around unless my trailer was stretched and I was over 90 OAL. You learn to do it,,Before 1985 almost all states east of the Mississippi had 55ft OAL limits,,

 

I just spent 12 months in a tractor with a 72 sleeper and home time was a total 3 weeks, and the 72 sure seems small now! Trust me, I'm buying a Kenworth next year with the big sleeper! And I just spent an hour in Stockton, CA talking to an O/O with a Peterbilt and extended sleeper for Allied. He says he calls his agent and arranges for a moving crew and smaller truck to go to the residences after shifting the load in the moving company yard.
Great guy, lots of info, and he says the only time he has a problem is when he goes home to long Island, NY, as he can only Bobtail there. As my wife is joining me next year I think having all the conveniences on board will pay off in the long run, as that will be home for the next 5 years after the KW purchase.

 

Love my 128" ARI sleeper truck. My wheelbase is 280" and we go anywhere you can go with a smaller truck. Yes, most big sleeper owners are specialized and probably running team with their wife like I do. We love being able to shower when we want and cook good meals in the truck and watch TV when we are sitting overnight somewhere. We spec'd the Truck so we can run thru western Canada as we haul freight to Alaska every now and then. The truck cost $275k but the resale on the truck is considerably more then other trucks of the same year and make. I worked hard for 28 years and now thanks to buying a big sleeper truck we are really enjoying trucking again.
