I have a 3406E that blows white smoke and sputters just for a few seconds at startup. I had the injectors checked out, overhead ran, hooked up to computer and everything checked ok. Anyone have any ideas? I know it has to be something simple, any help would be apperciated. Thanks

Does the smoke stop when the engine warmed up?

Yep, after it cranks it sputters just for a second blows white smoke, and quits. I just got back today from a garage had the injectors checked and the overhead ran. there was no fault codes?

Thats normal its cold out, they all do that, mine smokes white for a good 5 minutes sometimes. Unless your are loosing coolant then dont worry about it and truck!

Considering the temperature outside right now i highly doubt it, if it was 80*F outside and he was loosing coolant then yeah....... Ive been down that road before on my dads E model.

If it it continues after "warm-up" that could be the case.

Listen to the hot side of the engine for any hissing. Sometimes there might be residue seeping between the block and the head but not always.

Before I had the injectors checked, it would do it untill the it got good and warmed up. Now it sputters and blows white smoke and you can smell the fuel. After about 10-20 seconds it stops, but if I cut it off after its ran and start it back it will do the same thing.

My guess is the cold temps are keeping the fuel from buring up completly inside the motor and some of it is expelled thru the pipes.
