When you look at the costs of operating. Is it better to buy a used truck or a new truck? I am leaning toward the latter. Looking at what repairs can and will be on used, one major breakdown can more than wipe you out. If you take what you have to put away for used, and put it into new upfront. It looks to be the same. I have looked at dealer warrantees (EFFEN insurance polices) are not worth the paper they are written. They will deny your claim because they will say that you the truck in some way that you were not supposed too. I know that new will be more $$ up front, but running the #'s it looks to be close in the long run.

If you have the means for new then I would do as I did and hunt for a used low mileage rig somewhere between 100 and 200k on the ticker. This way you save the FUTA tax, off the lot depreciation as well as the truck is broke in. You will also know by pulling the history of what the truck/engine is made of rather than getting a new one loaded with bugs to work out.... someone else has already done that on their dime.
