Buying Tires, What Are Your Suggestions?

I see that you are from Mc Allen , if you ever come to San Antonio look up J&M tire its just south of 410 on Hwy 16 on the southside of town I've been getting tires from them for years and are real cheap on pricing.

 

i have found out that yokohama are a good choice they don't wear down on corners.

 

a month or so ago Speedco was getting rid of Michelin as a brand so they were running some good deals. I talked to the one in Baytown TX but they may all have been clearing them out.

For steers I'd try to stick to Bridgestone or Michelin.

Drives I don't have a problem going cheaper. Dayton, yoko, kelly etc. Not the cheap tires from china, they don't seem to last long.

 

I run bridgestone for steers but have been buying cheap tires for drives. Have been buying china tires from a place in arkansas and getting between 275,000 and 300,000 out of them. 8 new closed shoulder drives, 285/24.5 run me 1,850 mounted and balanced.

 

I like my BF's. I tried most brands like Michelin's, Yokohama's, and Bridgestones. BF's are all I will run on my steers. Drives it doesn't really matter to me as long as they are virgins and that's the same on my spread. I will never go with Continentals EVER again.


I'm going to tell you something that a lot of guys tell me I'm crazy for. In each of your tires put 3 golf balls to balance them. For super singles put 5 in. I promise you they will wear even. I thought it was crazy myself. I tried it and now every one of my tires get them. The guys who trusted me have been very happy with the results.

 

you shouldn't use golf balls. they come apart and the stringy inside rats nests inside the tire and plugs up the valve. They make ballance balls for this purpose and they are solid

 

I never had that happen. I've been doing it for only 4 years. I change them out, I don't keep using the same balls.

 

What i use to do to balance tires was pour 5 cups of coolant in each tire, worked great.

I got the centramatic balancers now, had them for 3 years on my previous trucks and they work GREAT!

 

must be using a better golf ball then the guy I saw with the guts of it hanging out his valve stem after the tire guy took the valve out of it
