The prostar is a great truck basically. Like all trucks it has it's flaws. First off, the company you work for sets the automatic shut down, max speed, etc. so dont blame IH for those problems. My wife and I have a 2009 Prostar condo. it has ample storage, fantastic ride (for a truck), very quiet inside, I am over 6-2 tall and can adjust the seat where I cannot push the clutch petal to the floor and no other truck has had that much leg room. It has a 435 cummins isx, 9 spd, 355 gears. depending on head wind, hills (mountains), weight, and time of year (winter blend fuel is bad),and speed. We get between 6.9 mpg to 10.25 mpg. IH ran a print out of the fuel usage and it averaged with idle and everything of 8.4 mpg over th life of the truck. Also, yes they have electricle issues. Our competitors south of the border dont like to tape off or clean paint from ground post on the body and frame. This has caused alot of headache and is a simple fix once discovered. About storage, if you cant fit all your stuff in there (the condo) then you have issues with yourself. My wife and I stay out 3 months at a time often and have more then enough room for everything needed. As of now the truck has over 300,000 mile and is in the shop now for brakes (First time) on drives, twice for A/C (high and low pressure swith corrosion) and one of those was due to a dumb mechanic previously. air leak at quick coupling 2 times, and to clean the ground post on the frame and body so the elect system would not send out false codes. other then that it has been purfect

pro star junk max force junk.!!!!! bought a new one 6 months ago, biggest mistake i ever made.owned 15 trucks over my 37 years of trucking and never had such a piece of scrap in my life.max force motor is quite yes, thats what they bragg about, thats cause it won't pull ####.this truck rides like a lumber wagon, wind noises, vibrations and where do i stop.fuel mileage is the pits 5.88 mpg running lite loads toronto to montreal.been to the dealer ship in kingston many times, had a specialist from "max force" put an up dated and newer and better program in this pile of junk and it is WORSE. international is going to be in big trouble with these motors and the pro star if they don't start doing something real quick, like take them off the market until they have a fix. i made my last payment and now this week i am going to take on the place where i bought this pile of junk.who now won't return my calls anymore. ANY BODY ELSE CARE TO COMMENT,will keep you posted.drop me an email if yoy want, really pissed with this deal.....cl.w@sympatico.ca

Good article. If you are on this forum long enough, pretty much every truck manufacture is hated by someone for all the same reasons. We have had a surprising number of low power and fuel economy complaints with these trucks that where due to improper driving techniques. Lugging the engine down too low, shifting too low and too much idling all reduces fuel economy.

The time to shift is all relative to how heavy you are, the terrain, etc. Many newer drivers have a tough time differentiating when to shift. If I am lighter, I may shift to where I am at 1100 rpm in the next gear. But if heavy, or on a uphill pull I may shift at a time when the next gear will be at 1400. On a thirteen on the top side, that would be shifting at 1300 and 1600 respectively. You are correct, Heavyd, many drivers don't shift at the proper times and lug too much or even over rev. It was sometimes difficult for me to teach this to new drivers. I guess it really comes with experience more than anything else.

I think it's a poorly built ergonomic disaster. Where do I start? Mirror controls on the arm rest? Really?
I use the arm rest and my passenger mirror gives me a view of the sky. Light switches that I can't see while driving and are difficult to reach. A/C vents that blow into the back of the steering wheel while driving. Cold air comes in through the door panels and the door handle. Wind noise is unbearable. Cubby holes above the cb slot slant from back to front. The air horn and city horn are bassackwards. If you need the air horn you might just change the radio station or volume instead. Truck drivers have been known to mount a thing or two on the dashboard. Good luck finding a flat spot in a prostar. Anything you put on the dash will roll five feet away from you. A map light that's useless if you're left handed. The sunvisors are a joke. I honestly can't think of one good thing to say about this truck. I could go on, but I think it's apparent I hate this truck. There's nothing pro or star about it.
I was reading on international's website that the prostar was designed using driver feedback. Really? But hey, it's got a patented roof design which makes everything ok.
    Feels good to vent sometimes.

my husbands truck started getting warning lights dealer fixed a few times but a short time after out of shop lights come on again, he also has a problem with it shutting down. at first underloads and on hills now just anytime, after he sits awhile usually starts back up.His shop & dealer can't seem to figure it out. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? He is getting very frustrated
expecially when it happens & blocks
