I ran cat excavators and those excellent engines, recently we've been involved in moving hyndai with cummins engines and those are really troublesome, I know cummins used have a good engine but recent ones are crap although new cats are rebranded maxxforce/man engines which a rubbish too but they still build good machine engines so it's cat for for me

This 450/1650 ISX will pull a 475/1650 (factory setting) cat powered truck up a hill and not even skip a beat.
It is really too bad that Cat could not get their heads out of their A55es and put a real tune in their C15s so that they would actually pull and get some economy like this Cummins. Now they are letting Navistar do their work for them. Still can't pull even with Navistar at the reigns of the tuning and emission setups but much better then what Cat could do.
With more then 150 trucks in the fleet, my boss has tried most everything as far as engines and drive train setups. Volvos, Maxforce, Cat, Cummins, Paccar etc. Volvos being the worst for reliability and Cat being the worst for pulling power and economy, The Cummins is at the top of his list on perfered engines with Maxforce coming in third and the MX pac engines coming in second. He won't even talk Mercedes because the few trucks he had with that engine did not last long. -
I thought CAT only provided the blocks for Navistars Max Force 15?
-
id say cat and navistar are in bed deeper than just the block but thats just a guess
-
Yeah I was told they are just providing blocks and the cranks, that was from a guy at Milton cat but who knows. -
I want reliability...which engine has commons problems.i heard cat is fuel thirsty and expensive.
-
Cummins has a Scania derived extra high pressure fuel system that works at an unbelievable 2700bar (39,000 psi) so they should be very efficient , scanias own 730 hp v8 will do 11mpg's @ 97,000lbs so theoretically new cummins engines should be in the same ballpark and sadly with diesel prices shooting up fuel efficiency is getting more important than reliability
-
I really like what I see overseas from Scania...wonder how hard it would be to grey-import one. I'd love that V8 on the PA hills around here.

how many miles are these skania v8's good for i had over a million on my cat before an inframe
