Not sure I'm posting in the right place, new to this. Looking for info on the new Detroits DD-15. Have an 08 525 hp It Sucks (ISX) right now, pulling super-b grain bulkers gross weight 138000 lbs getting between 3 and 4 mpg. My 02 C-15 averages 5.23 in a 3 month period doing same work. It Sucks has 70000 miles on it, would probably have a 100000 miles if it wasn't in shop so much. Come Feb it is turning into an 09 Cascadia with 565 hp DD-15. And yes it's costing a crap load of money to trade.
    Thanks

You will really like the DD15. Ours are more of the fleet spec....455/1650. But the engine feels more powerful than that. Very impressive.

I've had good luck with the ISX too...but it's just not the motor that the DD15 is with the turbocompound and the commonrail injection. The fuel economy seems to be better with the Freightliner that has the Detroit. I'd say you're OK either way but a little better with the FTL+Det.

Has anyone seen the CARB ruling from Friday ? I looks like the resale value of everything older than a 2010 will take a hit soon. Yikes.

by 2012, trucks older than 2010 emissions will not be allowed in California...or at least the ports of California. So they will slide in resale value, I'm afraid.

Just curious about what kind of problems you're havin exactly? Was lookin into a Cascadia myself and was intrested in the DD15. Is there problems with the tractor too or just the engine?

hey savage well I guess it depends on what your doing with the truck if you are pulling 80,000lbs I think the dd15 is great but for us guys pulling 140,000 lbs it is just not enuff power for this guy coming from 565hp cummins. Now if your an owner opp I think this is not the truck for ya I think it will be in the shop for a lot of over the years like I had a factory bunk heater put in did not work took to days down to fix prob air dryer not working in shop right now brought it in friday maybe get it back on tuesday cb don't work cabnets ratling already, back up lights rusted out stack tuned coulers from the heat of the regen I think?? I can go on to but don't have time right now oh and all sumer with no air cond ether they could not find the problem it was in the shop 5 times for that one all in all I would not buy unless you want to come up here to Ont and buy mine haha hope this helps

From what we can tell, the DD15 is a more powerful and more responsive engine than the ISX rated at 450/1550. Besides, DD15 is rated up to 560HP and 1,850 lb-ft. They will be releasing a DD16 next year that will be over 600HP and 2,000 lb-ft. I'd say they have the power....

It will be a 2 horse race come 2010...Detroit + Cummins + a handful of others.

I'm anxious to get more miles on our newer ISX and DD15 to see how the fuel economy and reliability stack up. Both are very good engines and <knock on wood> have been reliable for us.
