I have a pitted windshield caused by a dump truck hauling dry sand that passed me on a very windy day.I drive a fairly new truck and do not want to buy a new windshield. Any suggestions on making it better. I was thinking rainx. I heard wd-40? Anybody got any experience with this problem?

Yeah, buy those windsheild repair kits from permatex from your local autoparts store. It doesn't make it go away, but it is less noticeable and will help prevent the crack from enlarging.

Don't you hate those #### dumptrucks throwing rocks all over the place??? Oh wait, that's me!!!

I once had a windshield with almost 400,000 miles on it. It had some chips, but they never cracked. It was hard to drive in the rain or at night because of the pitting the windshield had received.

I finally contacted and asked for a replacement windshield. It was an amazing difference.

I will look at the auto parts store over the week-end.I don't have anything against dump truck drivers.I think they should make sure they tarp a dry load of sand if they are going to travel on the interstate.

My truck was new in November 2008. It has 30000 miles on it. I am not looking forward to looking out a pitted windshield for the next few years. I am going to call a windshield replacement shop tomorrow and ask them for help.If nothing else I am going to clean it good and use rainx and make the best of it.

Yea, me too. Good thing my company has a policy to tarp ALL loads. Hell, they buy trucks with electric tarps, so no excuse.

Check with your insurance company about free replacement. Most policies have it hidden that you are allowed one free windshield replacement a year at no charge or premium increase.

I just washed my truck. Cleaned the windshield inside and out. I treated it with rain -x. It seems to be better but,it is day time. I am going to try to not dwell on it this week. If it still bothers me I am going to polish it with some stuff I was told about in this thread. Thanks for the replys. I wish you all well.
