Clutch breaks are easy 30$ at fleet pride for the 2 peice and adjust till the pedal has roughly 2 inches of play

Just bought a two part at the Kenworth dealer for $21.22 last week. Took the mechanic about 10 minutes to put it in.

    Lord, do I despise Fleetpride.....

My question is, how long can a clutch brake be expected to last?

I've got 276k on my company ride and this morning she's grinding. (Also, somebody used my truck for a yard mule last week. Which really ticks me off, but that's another matter.)

AFAIK, it's the original. So maybe it's just due. Or whoever used my truck broke it.

I think you can fix it without dropping the tranny. Isn't there an access port in the bell housing?

A one piece clutch brake will easily outlast the clutch as long as it is used correctly, kept in adjustment and lubed at the proper intervals. No matter the application.

While 2 piece clutch brakes are a good option to get more life out of a clutch when it has failed. 1 piece is the best for longevity. Most 1 piece failures are on hydraulic clutch trucks where it's easy to abuse the brake even with a wimpy left foot. A good driver will rarely need to use the brake and when you do, it doesn't take much effort at all when done right.

Some drivers just don't know about pushing the pedal all the way to the floor or firewall versus just enough to disengage the clutch. Every time you push all the way to the floor or firewall you are squeezing the clutch brake. So pushing like this when the truck is already moving is just wearing down, stressing and abusing the clutch brake. It should only be used when shifting out of neutral and into either a forward or reverse gear. Any other time you should only pushing down the clutch enough to disengage to make your shift. If the clutch brake is broken or simply worn out, it was used improperly.

I was told to pretend my d**k was between floor and clutch pedal once the wheels begin to spin in the school of old school trucking!
