how does it know if you are loaded or not without air ride?

ive never driven an air ride dump truck but it doesent seem like a good idea to me.

You have to install load cells on the suspension, just like log haulers do.

    james3505 Thanks this.

That way works or just put a pressure switch in parallel to the air bags with a preset trip point using a NC type of switch. Cheap fast and easy. Volvo is doing this on 2011's I know

This is the setup we have. We also have another complete take off (one drive axle and one dead axle) from a local dealer who thought it would be easier to sell a truck he had with 2 live axles.

A push button dumps all the air of the tag for traction (absolutely a must) and also kills the brakes so you can drive with it dumped if you wish.

the simple tag axe, no lift bag. one dump valve and that is all... practically - very reliable designe.

Why I prefere tag axe - no DS! in UK they love pusher axe and to remove DS is the pain!

Since I haul a lot of bulk loads I've been thinking of using a tag axle on my Pete... it would save about 1,000 lbs I've been told.

The only disadvantage is I field load during the harvest season BUT there is always a 4WD tractor around to pull/push the trucks in and out when needed.

That's because your equalization valve is too small and slow. Just get a quick react valve. Or at least hook it up as Common Air system.
