Used Motorkote once, my TBN level went from 9 to 1.9 in 20k. sent sample to lab who then called asking what i put in my oil saying" you either put Lucas or Motorkote in" i said," Motorkote" .. lab said "dump your oil and dont ever use it again"
had 40 k on synthetic oil running a bypass filter and had to dump it. lost 300.00 of oil....google, bobistheoilguy.. then search Lucas or Motorkote .

    Grey Dodge Thanks this.

Paul I would say something else is going on with your TBN other than using Motorkote. I run a by pass oil filter also and use Motorkote and my TBN has never got lower than 5.9, most of the time it is in the mid 7's.
Last week I was in the Cat shop getting my Cat brake fixed and had a rocker shaft broke and the mecehanic said I had a realy clean engine to have 300,000 miles on the oil. After he started taking it apart he made a comment about how slick the old rocker shaft was. After I put the first galon of motorkote in I only put a half gallon in ever other filter (oil) change.

I used to use Lusas in my old truck that had a 6nz Cat with almost a million miles on it, but the only reason I was using it was to keep better oil press. That stuff is like motor huney...IMO its way to thick for these new motors

My TBN was fine before the motorkote incident and has returned to normal since. I have done some research since and have found the general opinion of the pros in the oil labs is that products like Lucas or Motorkote are worthless and can change oils additive package in a negative way... if you get a chance, view some of the 100s of posts on any oil site reguarding additives. I did nt see any positive comments.

Paul have you been lisning to Kevin Rutherford to much?:biggrin_25525: j/k
Sites like bobstheoilguy have sponcers like Mobil One oil...Do you think there gonna let anyone say alot of good things about oil additives? Granted oil additives are not for every one. Also not every lab test oil simples the same way, case in point I simple my oil at every filter change and goes to the same lab every time...was at a Speedco having a lube job done and had them draw out a simple just to see what there test would show...some numbers were spot on others were way off.
Is Motorkote helping my truck? I cant say 100% yes cause I havent looked at the bottom end nor any piston and liners. But I have a 98 Chevy pickup with a 350 engine that started having a lifter tick at start up and would not quit until it was warmed up and after a oil change it would not quit for at least 10 mins. Started using Motorkote in it and the lifter tick is gone.

Havent listened to KR in a long time. same old crap. Yes, some info came from bob site but most came from site my lab referred me to . no sponsors, pros only. my lab had to set me up thru their account just so i could view it. cant post.
just offering my exp/research with additives. nothing more. if you have faith in something and you see the benefits thats what matters. we cant all agree on everything .
what oil are you useing ?

FWIW, ive been doing UOAs and extended drains 15 yrs, long before anyone heard of KR

I'm not trying to bust you Paul. In fact I would say you did the right thing by dumping your oil out, I would do the same if they called me and said there was a problem with my simple, after all that why we take them. If I used synthetic oil I would think twice about using any kind of oil additive. But I have used both and I think Motorkote is the best of the two.

I all most went with the OPS system but I couldnt see a benfit of having a built in oil heater when the oil is all ready running 200~220 degs.

Right now I am using shell oil but if the time comes that I would have to drain my oil I might start using synthetic oil if I dont have a ton of miles on the motor. Right now it has 290000 miles without an oil change and 305000 total miles.
