I do regional with a some intrastate and had some Continentals HSR 16ply and was 1 of the best steer tires I ever had. I put about 120k on them and they still had plenty of rubber left on them. I have always been a name brand believer like goodyear bridgestone etc.. Anyways, I've replace them today with the Yokohama 023, I couldn't pass up the price on them specially with this times. Did some research on them and it wasn't to bad except for the recall back in 2005, but was a small batch. :biggrin_2556:

I only get 100,000 miles out of the Michelin XZA1's whereas I can get 150,000 miles out of a set of XZA3's. Going to try the Continental HSL2's or Yokohama RY617's next.

  5. I started out running Michelin XZA3's on the steers with Centramatics. I love them. Truck drives good and they are wearing GREAT. This is on an old '96 Freightshaker.

I liked them so good, I put them on the drives, too. Ran them all winter with no problems. I can't believe how good they are wearing. I wanted to try the XDA Energy's, but I couldn't get them, so I ended up trying the XZA3's.

I have about 95,000 on the steers and 65,000 on the drives. They all still look new.

I tried years past running steer tires for drives, first of all steer tires only have 18 and/or 19/32 of rubber when a regular drive tire could have up to 30/32 of rubber(more life). Second, I lost more traction with a steer tire during winter conditions and in jobsites. I like the way the smooth sidewalls look of a steer tire when the truck is clean polish and shining, but I prefered the traction and longer life of a drive tire instead.:biggrin_2558:

  7. I'm told that even though the tread isn't as deep, the Rubber compound on the XZA3 is stiffer than on most drives and will be very comparable to most other drive tires. We'll see. So far, I'm really impressed.

I was told that the "A" in XZA3 actually designates them as an all position tire and not really strictly a steer tire.

I should have mentioned, though, that I don't leave the pavement in my application. I don't know how they'd be if you were in another situation. Also, I stay in TX, OK, KS, MO, AR mostly, so the winters there usually don't see deep snow.

I didn't have any problems, though, in the snow I did run through.
