Im looking to get more power out of my cat 3406e,
its at 475hp right now, I took it over to cat yesterday
to get it turned up to 550hp but they wouldn't do it
because they said "the transmission would not handle
the torque" is there anything else i can do to get
    some more power?

An uprate is the best way to increase the horsepower, pull the ECM and take it to a dealer to have it flashed off the truck, if they dont see the truck they cant tell you the trans cant handle the torque. if they ask tell them its off a farm truck or similar which is not registered and therfore cannot be take into the dealership.
The dealer cannot flash the truck to 550 if the trans isnt rated to the right torque, or if the cooling system is not rated to a high enough horsepower because they can be held liable in court if it fails. If you take the ECM to them off the truck and tell them the trans and cooling system are ok they cant be held liable because they had no chance to inspect the truck and can only go off the info you supply them.

    tools needed

    4mm allen wrench

    1/2" socket

    1/2" wrench

    9/16" socket

    9/16" wrench

Just disconnect the wiring harnesses from the ECM using the 4mm allen wrench and then unbolt it from the block

Mr Haneys on the money, nothin to it, but being a 3406E yours will mostly likely have fuel flowing though the ECM. All you have to do is remove the lines, you'll lose a little bit of fuel, when you reconnect them you will have to bleed fuel system but its not hard, just pump the priming pump while someone cranks the engine and it will start ok. A 5/32 allen key will also do the job.

BTW should have mention in my other post...that would work with dealers out here in AUS, in the States the dealer may find some other reason to turn you down anyway. If that is the case pm DDS, he may be able to help you out.

what kind of tranny do you have? If your CAT says they couldn't than my guess would a FRO16 something as thats the max that tranny can take.
