cheapest way to add lubricity to ulsd

    Just fyi, I read on another site about an independent lubricity study. It included a lot of popular additives and rated them for lubricity according to the US gov't standard scar wear test. One of the best and the cheapest additive was two cycle oil (ashless) like wal-mart supertech tcw-3. I've been using it in a 1999 detroit 500, and it definitely quiets injectors and does a little better on fuel. Overall, the engine runs better. Its recommended to add an ounce per gallon, and it runs just under 11 bucks a gallon. It has the same btu rating as diesel fuel also. The study can be found by doing a search on diesel additive lubricity study. Hope it helps someone. BTW, not recommended for newer engines.

    I use a additive from a local guy, it costs around 2.5 cents per gallon of fuel treated bought in a 5 gallon bucket. his site is renewablelube.

    I normally just use Lucas products but I know a feller that addes a 20oz bottle
    of oil to each tank everytime he fuels.

    Thats the bad thing about the USLD, the fuel is very dry.

    Ctbird, I have read various places not to put newer transmission fluid in the fuel because of the friction modifiers and additives, plus the ash content. It did work back in the old days, just not the newer stuff. Thanks for the tip 24valvepuller.

    Coonass, just fyi the lucas faired poorly among the products tested. I have used it also.

    Putting trans fluid in your tanks makes the fuel have a red color which will almost get you fined at a scale when checked unless you can prove its trans fluid and not off road fuel, this happened to a friend of mine who puts that in during the winter for anti gel, he was checked but was able to convince the dot guys it was infact trans fluid in there for the winter.

    I've used it for two years now, they have a winter blend but I have never bought it. I used it the last two winters with no problems, I have it in a gallon jug in the side door on my bunk and have never seen any kind of gelling or thickening or have ever been shut down by it. I buy it in a 5 gallon jug and it lasts me 60-70k miles. I used to use lucas before this and knock on wood I have not had any mechanical injector failures since I started useing an addative, this stuff is about the same price as the lucas but treats 4 times the fuel per gallon of treatment

    just blending in 2% soybean oil would solve the lubercation problems of ULSD uping it to a 20% blend and you would even gain some MPG
