Did Mack go downhill before or after Volvo bought them? I always thought they were good trucks (coming from a KW man) but never looked at one because I didn't want to be forced to buy parts from one place. (Mack motor, trans, axles ect...)

You know you can get a cummins in a mack you don't have to have the mack engine.Although the macks are the majority there a few with cummins running around from time to time.

no cummins motor's in a Mack since the CL series got the AXE in 05 or 07 they are putting some ISL on lpg and cng in the MR series since Mack stopped making the E7 lpg and cng version

yes things went down hill after Volvo showed up they are doing the same thing to Mack as they did Autocar and doing a very good job of it

----NEW---- 2007 CL733,(LAST HEAVY SPEC CL733 W/SLEEPER) 48" DOUBLE EAGLE SLEEPER BOX, ISX 565HP, 18 speed, 20k front axle, 46k rear axle w/4.10 ratio on air ride w/full locking, double frame, chrome dual exhaust, chrome front bumper w/tow hooks, air slide 5th

Also from the Mack wbsite is this

Get behind the wheel of a Metro-Liner, Super-Liner or cummins-engine and you'll find Cummins power providing plenty of motivation up front. Mack and Cummins have worked closely to develop premium Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) power packages for the new breed - and the ISC, ISL, ISX and Signature 600 engines really complement the New Breed range.
The Mack MP8 and Cummins engines use the same emissions technology with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) and a self contained, cooled EGR system providing reliability without sacrificing fuel efficiency.
And if you were worried about performance - don't be.

So I think they still offer the cummins

Like I said 05 or 07 was the last CL off the line truck(that sleeper was a dealer add on all of them was daycabs) might be new but its 3yrs old die hard Mack buyers do not want a Cummings under the hood those other Macks you listed are not available in the United States Superliner stopped being sold in 93 in the US Metroliner never has been sold here If you noticed the accent of the guy in the video he is in australia Since the MP 10 has came out 605hp ISX is no longer needed

I understand that was a video from down under. But It was stated that Mack no longer offered a cummins engine,I was just pointing out that yes they do no one said anything about US only.
Not trying to be a ######### but if the emmission mack or the '04-current engines are junk due to the mack emmission setup why would anybody want a mack under the hood when they # one time could have a cummins with less emmission headaches?

I do agree that volvo will ruin the mack in short order as they have done with the others in the past.It is a shame

the main emmision problem with the E7ASSET was alot of junk turbos from Borg Warner used on cx and ch series (which has been cured) the AI engine used in granites never had turbo issues MP series not as troublesome other than electrical bugs being worked out, but if the ISX is so great why is practily ever other thread in this forum about how to unhook or change my egr in a ISX and why does my ISX suck so bad? I'll take my chances with a Mack engine I have good dealer support but never needed them

The same can be said about cat and detroit. If it is a emission engine it is junk.
This why I refuse to by a epa truck until I have to.
I do feel when it comes to the epa engines the cummins are doing better than cat on mpg and realiablity.
Volvo well there engine are junk as is mercedes.

I'm not defending the ISX by any means but if I had problems with one I could at least get it fixed under warranty at more places than a Mack dealer. That being said I'll keep my Cats until the last possible minute.

What I don't understand is Volvo seems to have a habit of buying companies and running them into the ground, why would anyone buy a volvo? But I guess you have 2 ways to become #1. Build the best product in the market, or buy out your competition and destroy their reputation.
