Thanks for all the info. So the new 08 emission motors seem to be better than the 07 and under. We just don't want anything with a DPF on it. Its just more crap to go wrong.

If you don't want a DPF then you don't want an '08.

I don't want an 08. I was just saying that it sounded like people were having better luck with the 08+ macks. I still don't want one.

I know, i just hope the rest of the country doesn't follow california. Just cause they are idiots doesn't mean the other states need to force you to retrofit your old truck or buy a new one just so it doesn't blow black smoke. I honestly would like to get a pete glider with a 6NZ cat in it.

I'm driving an '09 Mack CXU MP8 445 hp 10spd Eaton Fuller Autoshift, DPF, ATC, anti-roll, love this truck. So far, 82,700 miles, my only real gripe is the A/C doesn't work as good as the old truck, and the ATC is annoying until you get used to it. It's been in the dealer about a dozen times, mostly for little crap, the most times (4) for problems with the CB coax (it fried my radio) til my boss told me to take it to someone and have it fixed correct. Still have an annoying air leak when the truck sits overnight that they can't find. It's related to the secondary system, so it only affects my air ride, they've replaced the air ride valve 5 times and it still hasn't solved the problem. Mack recently replaced the cam, took it in because the jakes weren't working normally and the found the cam was going bad. Overall, it's been a super truck, we run container in Colo., 90% of the time we're running 78,000 lbs + and it runs like a charm. Pulls like there's no tomorrow.

This truck replaced a '00 CH that I drove for 978,000 miles, MP7 355 hp engine, again Eaton/Fuller 10 spd autoshift (660,000 miles on first clutch and replaced only when clutch brake failed, clutch still had 100K left on it).

So far, we have had no problems with the DPF system on this truck, it takes some getting used to as it adds some quirks to the truck, esp. when in city traffic. You have to get a feel for when it's regenerating, if it's regenerating and your cruising, you'll notice some increased engine temps, but in City or stop/go traffic regenerating can be a PITA as the truck will run at a high idle. If you don't pay attention it can overrun what you want it to do.

Now I had a chance to recently drive a test truck with the next generation of emission eqp. and it's gonna be a #####, one of the test trucks almost burned to the ground when the system overheated.

The last Mack I drove was a 06 460 13 sp. 390 gears, co. had about 100 Macks, the stock turbo cracked about 3 in. long, all the turbos where replaced and covered under warranty, the new turbo had a better iron look to it and worked great, very quick response. The belt tensioners where replaced every other PM-18,000 miles, to avoid problems. I pulled a chocolate tanker-6 ft.wide catwalk the length of the tank,Chicago to the eastcoast, then N.J to Canada, alot of hills and 48,000, intransit heat, you set the idle at 1,200.And still got 5mpg, governed at 70 mph.It ain,t no v8 or old 350 Mack with great lowend, but It is a Mack the heavier the load the better it pulls. The highest mile Mack I drove was 978,000, felt tighter than a 120,000 mi. freightshaker, and that trucks life was on the eastcoast. The 07 engine is suppossed to be better, buy not fixed. The 08-09 is suppossed to be fixed except for the mexican eletric-wirering.I talked to the owner of a Mack dealer and he said stay away from 04,s, 05 not much better,06lil better, 07 better. The machanic gave me a list of the problems on those years. It killed me to here that because I really wanted to buy a Mack truck. The bolt ons the engine are the problem, the rest of the truck is better than anything out there.
