A friend has a 2001 Volvo 770 with a Sig. 600. He has been getting an engine shutdown light and high oil temp alarm indicating 253 degree oil temp for a while now.
He just replaced his radiator, air cooler, oil coolers and water pump and is still having the problem.
He had a small leak a while back and did use a lot of bars leak and is concerned that perhaps there is some blockage in the block but could not see any when the oil coolers were off.
Anybody know where to go from here?

I can't say I'm surprised. 37 views and no ideas. Could it be that difficult? I'm baffled.
-
Likely better if posted in the garage/TRUCKS (18 wheelers) section. Most mechanical stuff is there.
-
Someone in another thread had mentioned a thermostat for the oil temp in the oil cooler. Could it be that?
-
I'll also check the other forum. Thanks for the tip. -
call Pitts power speak with Gary or Pete they def will know....good luck.
mackdaknyfe Thanks this. -
you may want to remove the oil thermostat and check the seat some of the early sig. 600 had issues with the seat comming loose

having the same problem in my 565 ISX. Check your EGR system for leaks. Thats what was causing ours.
-
He won't have EGR on that one. Before you rip your engine apart, check the actual engine temp with a thermometer, or infra red temp gun around the oil pan. You may just have a bad temp sensor. The oil temp and oil pressure are the same sensor, it is located on the left side of the engine. Most shops will swap the sensor with a test one to see if the two sensors are reading the same.

He just changed that sensor. To me, everything is working as it should now.
When he pulls large hills he is seeing his coolant temp going up to 210 degrees and thinks that since he has a 190 degree thermostat it should never go above that. I try to tell him that everything seems right to me but he is convinced.
The good thing is that this is making him back out of the throttle instead of just powering over everything. He may get some better fuel mileage (he averages around 4.3mpg now) and he may increase the life of his truck by backing out a little bit.
Thanks for all the help guys.
