Hello,
I'm just starting out in the trucking buisness here. I have been with central refridgerated services and I was unlucky enough to start out with a prostar with 30k on it. Well needless to say within the past two months.. I've been towed four times now.
First three because of electrical problems international couldn't fix.. Turned out to be a bad ecu... Now I'm broke down in iowa because my bearing in the clutch for the fan went out..
What I'm woundering is... Has anyone else had this many problems with their star or is this just bad starters luck? I'm really easy on the truck.. No over revs.. No hot rodding...

If it has the Maxxforce engine, I'm afraid you are in for a world of headaches! Prostars with Cummins are usually pretty good.

If you're still having electrical problems it could be a bad ground, things act just as funny with a bad ground as a bad ECU.Baack Thanks this. -
Actually,
I'm running a cumming. Only problem is.. With me governed as much as I am.. Its a little doggy even under 25000 in the trailer.
My dash told me on the last breakdown.. That I had a faulty electric ecu. That's when I was heading home down a backroad in arkansas and hit a curve then all the sudden every stich of lighting just went out and never came on again. International told me the ecu going bad had a contributing factor of a bad ground.
Other than that.. The trucks okay.. But I'd rather be in a 680 volvo. Much more room and I think more dependable.. Our volvos are equiped with cummins as well. -
International has always been famous for allowing 3 feet 11 1/2" of wire between two connections that are 4 feet apart! You would be amazed how tight some of the wiring is tied down! Too many zip-ties, too much tape. It is common to take a turn and then loose something as the cab/frame flexes. The harness stretch to the point where the terminals pull right out of the connector bodies. There were issues with bad grounds next to the body controller. The harnesses that plug into the body controller are tied too tight aswell.

Most new trucks have months of bugs to work out. There are too many variables that come into play when you're talking about trucks. They're almost like mass produced RV's. Not many are exactly the same, even from the same fleet. Werner used to spec all their Centuries the same, but every now and then there'd be one with a 13speed and 3.55's instead of the standard Super10 and 3.70's.

I had an '08 Prostar with Cummins. After dealing with it I would never think of buying anything that says International on it or work for a company that had them.
-
i had no idea about all that. i thought i was lucky. guess so in a way. my truck runs 66 instead of 62. i was told that if they were to back it down..it would void the warrent due to having to reprogram the computer. anyone have a problem with thier clutch? my makes the weirdest vibration and thuding sound when you apply the smallest amount of pressure while moving. no sound while its setting still tho.

Yes, they are all noisy when you apply just a little pressure. Reprogramming the maximum road speed will not affect your warranty.
