Have Cat ET 2007a can not seem to get it to work with communication adaptor 3 from Cat. I know about the Nexiq adaptor and cables, but was told by Nexiq wouldn't work on OFF road equipment, only on ON road. Has anyone tried to use adaptor 3 with early version ET ? Thanks in advance.

I've got 2007 and 2008 and I can't get either one to work with the Nexiq Magikey adapter. Detects the ECM but won't connect, says invalid ECM. Tried it on 3 different trucks. I thought it was the adapter, does yours even connect with the Cat adapter? I almost bought one but now I'm thinking it may be a software issue.

I use et2008a using nexiq litelink. Can be a pain to get going but when it does it works good. I think mine has a bad wire in the serial-usb adapter. Also make sure if using serial-usb that is set on com 5? or less. Don't remeber now. I have mine on com 2.
Only thing bad about litelink is it doesn't do the j19?? connection only j17??. That means no flashing allowed :)
BTW, I have used it on c15 on road and challenger with 3176 off road. Just need the proper harness adapter.

Jfaulk99,no i cant get it to connect, although have only tried on OFF road, but when i try to connect it tells me can not detect ecm. Cat has told me wont work on earlier version than 2009,they tell me com adaptor 2 will work. Just checking if anyone else has had same problem before i buy com adaptor 2. Thanks Montana i need to be able to flash though.

If you are hooking up to a machine, It will only connect through CDL ( cat data link) Truck uses j1708 and j1939, that adaptor only is capable of truck conections not CDL

Sorry, miss read thread, you are using a Cat adaptor, thought you were using a nexiq. What kind using as a usb adaptor between the cable and the computer. Also do you have the dual data link checked off in options?

DDS,using cat adaptor 3 and cables supplied with adaptor from cat,yes dual is checked, there is a cable that ties to computer via USB to adaptor out of adaptor to 9 pin.

    Morepwr,
What exactly are you trying to communicate with? a 2007 truck engine? If so, the com3 should do the job. If it's earlier than a 2007 engine( No DPF), the the com2 should work. When you bought the ET subscription, the selling Cat dealer should be able to offer assistance through their User Support center. That's where I'd start.

Trying to communicate with cat 2005 330c excavator. I have 2007a ET. the only comm adaptor available through cat is 3 and it doesn't seem to work on 2007a it says can not locate ecm,my question was if anyone else had used comm adaptor 3 with 2007a et?Or if you have to use comm 2.
