In my opinion the super 10 is a POS. Bring back the old 10 and 13 sp Roadrangers.

I dont have a problem with the super 10.They are pretty easy to get the hang of. Its 5 less gears to grind lol.
-
I drove a super 10 for 3 years, and the only advatage I noticed over a standard 10 was when the splitter stopped working. When that happens at least you only loose every other gear, and can limp the truck to the shop. Other wise I would not really want to drive a truck with a super 10 again.

I wonder if Cabcon is making the same mistake that I did, thinking that Schneider's 10 speed transmissions are Super 10's. I didn't know any better, until I test drove a truck with a Super 10 in it this week. It is like someone else here said, it shifts just like a 5 speed with a 2 speed rear end. I am considering buying an old TMC 2001 Century Class with a Super 10 and a 500 hp Detroit.
I never met a Schneider driver (in my nearly 16 years there) who averaged (AVERAGED) 8.6 mpg either. But if a truck driver said it, it must be true. Quite impressive. -
i gotta learn to drive a super 10 tomorrow
i know the gear pattern but still not very sure how to do it
1st gear bottom left, flip the switch up and im in second
flip the switch down, shift to top middle position and im in 3rd.....but when do i flip the switch down? before i move the stick at all?
also how the hell do u downshift.......say im in 8th gear and i want to go to 7th....the only way i know to do this is to bring the tach to 1000rpm, shift to neutral bump rpm to around 1500 and downshift
but if u arent even moving the shifter and never go to neutral how do u do this? -
1) Yes, flip the switch down before moving the stick----lifting off the accelerator pedal is what does the gear changing.
2) Again, lifiting off the acc pedal is basically the key to downshifting---yes, slowdown to bring the rpms to about 1000, lift off the pedal for a sec and wait to hear the "clunk" from the tranmission, then quickly blip the rpms to 1500rpm or so and it should go in to the next lower gear---that's for going from 8 to 7. Now if going from 7 to 6, it's the same except you have to move the stick of course.
Are you going for a driving test tommorow?
i personally like the super 10 (with top 2), but it does make it confusing for new drivers or drivers who have never seen or heard of such an animal. -
no not a driving test but tomorrow i start a whole new job they just created at my work...ill be taking each tractor from one side of the yard to the shop which is on the other side to basically fuel it and pre trip it so the drivers dont have to when they come in
so im really under no pressure, ill be out there doing it alone and will be able to mess around with it to learn it -

This should help. Have you driven a 13 or 18 spd?
When going from 7 to 6 remember that it automatically range changes. Don't get in a hurry to pull it from neutral down to 6. At least mine prefers a little hesitation there. ALWAYS pre-select. Don't flip the switch while in neutral EVER. You can skip shift but remember that you have to have a 700 rpm change to do this. Eaton says to shift at 1350 but my Cummins doessn't like to be shifted that low.. Could be the 400hp but it seems to do much better shifting closer to 1500 rpm -
Powell got it. Flipping the switch and letting off the accelerator basically puts it in neutral while still in the gear hole then bumping the rpm's with the pedal depending on if downshifting or upshifting. I love a super 10 myself, drove one for several years.
