i prefer super10's especially with top2 feature.

More fun to drive and less work.

 

I learned on the Super 10 and used one when I drove a pumpkin Century. I never had any issues with it and I always seemed to average between 7 and 8 MPG.

 

I drive a FLD with an auto top 2 super 10. Auto top doesnt work and you have to use the jake to get it to shift right. Have driven other super 10s that were just fine.

By the way a super 10 may have the same shift pattern as a 5spd with a 2 spd rear but is built like a 18 spd with some gears missing.
There are only 3 forward gears and a reverse in the main box, when you pass the shifter to the right and hear an air valve that is a range switch. I would like it better if they just put two switches on the knob like a 18 spd. The extra parts required to make it feel like a 5 spd arent worth the effort. It was just an idea that eaton-fuller had to work toward an autoshift transmission, kind of a lets try to make a halfway auto and see if we can sell it and if it takes then we can try a full auto.

I'll be switching trucks soon from an old FLD with a straight 10 into a Century Class with a Super 10. It's been years since I ran a Super 10. I think I should be alright once I get the hang of it again..

Any tips?

 

I learned in school on a Super 10 and I love it!! Our company only uses the straight 10's and automatics, which is what I have....

I got so used to only having to "shift" every other gear I thought I'd never get the straight 10, but it was a piece of cake as well.

had super 10 top2 at air products (9-10 shift is auto) never liked the fact that you had no control over when the thing would downshift from 10 to 9, other than letting off the throttle and waiting for it to downshift (very interesting on curves on icey or snowy roads) came to find out that you could have the transmission programed to only autoshift while in cruise control. air products felt that the transmission was smarter than the driver and had it programed to autoshift all the time. oh well. drove there for three years before one of the old timers showed me how to have complete control over the other 8 gears. technique is to start out in 1st gear(clutch lasts a lot longer!)when shifting to 2nd gear, flip splitter button up, then instead of letting off throttle and waiting for transmission to upshift, immediately put shifter into neutral position. (at this point the transmission is in 2nd gear) the next thing you do is put the shifter back in 1st gear position and voila!, you just performed a complete control shift. this technique works shifting up or down.the only downside is you can no longer call it a lazyman transmission. worked there for one year more and finally got a road test with walmart. got out of distribution center and made it to main road with no problems (they have straight 10 transmissions) the next thing i did was shift from 1st gear to 7th gear because i flipped up the splitter button before shifting into 2nd gear. i apologized to the road test guy and had no other problems for the rest of the test and got hired (my relearning curve became very quick!) hope this post helps anyone shifting a super 10 for the first time.

 

OK first the tranny will change your fuel mileage...who ever said a tranny does not is a fool....thats where your gearing starts....second the issue with it shifting on its on is fixable. is a vavle you take out and throw away and shift on your own. personal i hate a super 10 they have a issue with shifting up on grades the rpms have to drop so far to grab the gear on the split and its normal below your working rpms. kinda like missing the gear at first and recovering late.....lol this leans me if i want a 10 to stay with a normal 10 speed quicker shifts smoother on hills....but hey i would rather have a 13 or an 18 anyways......
