I have a peterbilt 379 had the door hinge wore out so I replaced it with a new one. Now for the life of me I can't get this door adjusted. If I get it slid far enough forward for it to shut it leaves a huge gap at the top of the door. If I slide it over to close the gap at the top, the door won't shut. I know it sounds simple but for some reason I'm not seeing the solution. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have replaced one before but with no issuses... i will atempt to help, but a little confused .. is it a front to back, top to bottom, in n out prob, or a combo... my first thought would be the hinge where it bolts at the cab.. is it in to far to alow the back of the door to go in far enough? I imagining this as your problem... am i close or way off base?

If the truck has a unibilt sleeper assembly the cab can shift. The top of the cab actually pushes forward when this happens. The door then no longer fits in the door frame properly. The cure is to add the 379 70" sleeper air bags under the cab and sleeper to support the cab. After this is done then you can use a hydraulic porta power in the door frames to re-align the top portion of the cab. If you try to do this without the air bags from the 70" sleeper then the cab will return back soon after you fixed it. Basically whats happening is the cab/sleeper combination is sagging at the cab/sleeper joint. The extra air bags from the 70" cab/sleeper combination support the structure where it sags. This is a common problem with the 63" unibilt sleeprs .

i'm having the same issue but i didn't replace anything,my door just doesn't stay completely shut.

Mr. H I am almost completely satisfied with your answer. It sounds completely feasible. This is a '96 model unibuilt, so it doesn't even have the tall cab which I assume would add a bit more support to the cabin. These 70" airbags, do they just mount between the cab and the frame rails? Are they hard to get rigged up in there or is there a place for them to bolt on under the cab?
-
I'm assuming that you chain the back of the sleeper down then portapower between the frame rails and the back of the cab. Does that sound right. Is it possible or likely that it would just sag on the drivers side or does this usually happen to both sides?
-
Oh I reread your post. So you use the portapoweron the actual door frames, ok.
