Wood Decking for Dropdeck

    I have oak on my lowboy and loaded alot heavier equipment than a 8k pickup and not broke a board, the treated pine on my ramps a D6XL turned them into toothpicks

    What ever wood you go with make sure it is dry. Kiln dried would be best.

    did transcraft use apitong flooring in 1993? i just put a deposit on a 48x102 flat,but the wood # the back of the trailer needs to be replaced.

    Advantage...The Navy likes wood decks for hauling torpedoes...
    Disadvantage...Weight....

    Does anyone still use apple wood?....

    The contractors I used to work for had all of their low-beds with apple wood decks....

    They tend to hold up a little better against idiots that can't run a forklift. Weight is their biggest disadvantage. Also the sun is pretty hard on them.

    matierials do not shift as much on a wood deck

    there is a place in western pa that will do a 48 flat in oak for about $1700 make an appt,, drop it off in the morning first thing and pick it up in the afternoon

    Advantage I use a lot is being able to screw blocking into floor. Safety dept where we p/u tanks will not let you leave without at least 4 per tank secured to floor. Freight does not shift as much.
    Disadvantage. Weight. Durability. Just like every thing else in life. Lots of trade offs. Haul machinery on many backhauls. Always leery when loading a tracked machine.

    I have a composite deck....
    Meaning I have "nailers" and an aluminum deck.....
    Best of both worlds......
