Lets say a truck has a 10 speed and you want to purchase a 13 speed is the dealer going to charge you a core fee or will they accept the 10 speed as the core?
thanks,
Andrew

I'd like to know the answer to this too, I'm not happy with my 10 either. I have heard a 10 core doesn't count towards a 13, but I would think they'd give you something, maybe not 100% ?
-
I though a 10 could be converted to a 13. Nevermind I think it's a 9spd that can be converted.
-
Depends on the model of 9 speed. Eaton has a 9 convertable they primarily sell to truck fleets. When the fleet decides to sell the truck, they will have the tranny converted to a 13 for a few hundred bucks to get a better resale out of the truck. Swift does this to a lot of their fleet trucks when they rotate them out of the fleet.

probably not as there is a lot more to it then the number of gears but they might if you trade a heavy 10 for a lower rated 13 etc..but that would not be all that smart but avoid the dealer and find a good rebuild shop and it might be cheaper then you think -
I think that would be a case by case basis. There is always some demand for any core. You might just not get full core value.

Didn't ask about the 10 for 13 exchange, but when I had my 13 rebuilt, the local rebuilder had some 18s sitting on the floor; some takeouts, a couple that were rebuilt. Wouldn't do a 13 for 18 swap, stated the 18s were too hard to come by.

eatons policy is the core u are turning in has to have the same core value as the trans u are buying. your 10 speed core has to be the same price as the core for the 13 speed u are buying.
i have attached the file that shows how to figure out the price of your core.Attached Files:
