I've heard a huge range of prices on inframes and as I'm buying a used truck I thought I better ask here. What did you pay or do you know approx. $$$ ... I understand a Cummins is cheaper than a Cat ??

It depends on what engine and what you need done.....
BTW....it's cheaper to replace a CAT than to rebuild a CAT....
CAT has a core on it's engine parts..... -
I paid $13K 4 years ago on my N14.....
My Series 60 you can get an inframe kit for as little as $8K and it goes up depending what you want done... -
To tell you the exact price is highly difficult. It's like WCP says... It depends on what you want or need changed. CAT, Detroit, Cummins will all have different prices. Are you having the work done at the dealership? Side shop? In your driveway? Are they charging you $100 a hour or $50 a hour for labor?

"Overhaul" is too general of a term anymore. To me, an overhaul includes a reman head, pistons, liners, main bearings, turbo and all related gaskets. Overhaul can exclude the head and liners. Some people cheap out and just re-ring the pistons and slap a new head gasket between the block and original head and hope for the best, not good enough. You can also include a new water pump, thermostats, vibration dampener, injectors, oil coolers, and even a complete service. CATs are the most expensive, their extended warranty is out of this world expensive, Detroits used to be the cheapest, and N14's were about the middle. Don't know how ISX's stack up, or the newer Detroits though.
