The thermometer reads -18, with a slight 7mph breeze, wind chill says -33.
With thicker "summer" oil in the truck, blended, treated but still "thick" fuel and 4 shivering batteries, the truck says, "I'm not even going to think of starting for you pal".
It will reach a balmy 9 today and tomorrow with 4-7 more inches on top of the 22+ we already have due on Tuesday through Wednesday. High of 2 on Thursday. Guess I got plenty of time to do my IFTA return and complete my IRP too. Wife's wants me outta here, what's a guy to do? Brrrrrrrrrrrr!
This is our "mild" El Nino winter:biggrin_25523:

    It's winter in Nebraska
    And the gentle breezes blow
    Seventy miles an hour
    At thirty-five below.

    Oh, how I love Nebraska
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
    I could never leave Nebraska
    I'm frozen to the ground!

I talked to a driver that puts about 2 gallons of gasoline in his 140 gallon diesel tanks. Says it works as well as anti-gel and it's obviously way more inexpensive.

Anyone ever hear or do something like this? Any harm to the motor? Thoughts?

yep thats old school anti gel it also makes the diesel burn hotter so don't over do it, I know of a n-14 that stayed blown up over the operator putting 5gal of premium in a tractor that holds 280gal, but he did it every day hot or cold

This is my first winter winter and I just started fladbedding too. Really it is a good winter to start with, if I can do it with all this snow and sub zero temps, then at least I know I got what it takes.

When I was deciding to get into flatbedding every kept asking me if I really wanted to be strapping and tarping in 20 degree weather... LOL Dang, 20 degrees would be nice right now. LOL

Gears, be happy your at home. Hubby is in a shop as we speak, getting new T-stats. AND we are not even sure that will cure the problem. Truck running too cold, almost froze him last night, by the time he got to Bode, IA. The temp there over night was supposed to be -16, not sure of the wind chill. AND the APU wouldn't start for him, when he got there. He treated the fuel before he left, but it didn't seem to help, so I'm assuming the chill got to below what the treatment is rated for.

    Gears Thanks this.

Did he put cardboard in front of the rad?

When it gets that cold most trucks need a little help.

Kerosene is a better way to go for antigel. Its probably just easier to buy the stuff of the shelf.
