I do not really like any of your options Best fuel mileage on a brand new truck I would go Mack CHN or CXN with the MP8 motor I know of several in that get mid 7's and what they pull is not light or aerodynamic
I think you will find the glider will cost about the same amount as a brand new 2010
If I was going to put a kit together 3406E over the detroit series 60 -
averaging 6mpg with 53van and loaded up to 40k
thanks -
I would avoid the Volvo unless it has the cummins engine as the Volvo engines are notorious for having problems. Either choice 1 or choice 2. Are you going to be driving the truck??

this is for company drivers .

the coranado with the pre emissions detroit would be my choice $25,000 less than a new one........ less maintenance and problems !
bonus......... much better on fuel
i know guy that has about 30 freightliners and except for a few he got cheap most of them are gliders ...... saved alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$
macks are junk for over the road -
we had a truck in here that was the same as what u are looking at. it did have detroit warrenty on it, but it was a ddec 1 block. liners had sunk in block causing head gasket to leak. we had to cut block, repair lower counterbore sealing area from cavatation. block was ate up with cavatation. i some how got warrenty to cover it. dealer who overhauls it will probaly put thier reman tag overtop of the orginal serial number on the block. get the orginal serial number off the block and see what year the block is. why buy a new truck with a 10 year old bock, thats cavatated

In theory, the glider kits are a good deal, but, you're depending on that being a proper re-man engine/tranny/rear ends. I've always been leary of re-man engines, a little risky.

I looked into this alot for a guy, all the components are supposed to be manufacture reman and for the price and the complete elimination of egr and emission BS its well worth the trip to Fitzgerald. If you want aero for a driver Columbia is the way having ecm parameters set to promote efficiency; speed, progressive shift, idle timer,etc..

How far back with the engine can one go on a Glider Kit?
For example, a mechanical CAT 3406, or a Cummins Big Cam in a "new" truck.
Just for curiosity's sake.
