2000 Kenworth T2000...What To Look For

Hello,everyone

I'm looking at buying a 2000 Kenworth T2000.It has 450,000 on the body and drive line.It has 150,000 miles on a factory(not rebuilt) per emissions 2005 CAT C12.It also has a Super 10.I've never driven Kenworths before and I'm ask you guys what I should look for as for as Kenworths go.Do they have any common problems?

This will be the first time buying a truck.I was a company driver for 10 years and never had a problem breaking down.Other then the DOT stuff and fluid leaks etc, what would you guys look or listen for?The truck has sat off and on for the past two years.I've only had one Cat,a C15,and never had a problem with it.What should I look for on the C12?

I am a fan of KWs. But not a fan of the T2.

In my opinion its a poorly put together plastic cab.

The C12 may be under powered for what you want to haul. And I am no fan of the super 10.

Find a T6 with a 3406E or C15 and at least a 13 spd. You'll be happier. Or I should say that I would sure be happier with the T6.
A friend of mine drove a T2 about that vintage. The one piece cab/sleeper is pretty noisy, he said it sounded like a huge re-verb box for the engine/road/wind noise.

Ditto what Brick said.

A T2000, C-12, and a super 10 = 3 strikes.

The T 2000 is a poorly designed POS fleet dog! With that many miles on it you will have nothing but grief with it.
Bad wiring, Poorly built cab...It's an embarrassment to Kenworth.

Not sure what they are wanting for this truck, but T2's have lower resale value compared to anything else KW builds in this segment. Would also think that if you wanted or had to bail out of things, trying to off a 10+ year old T2 coupled with a C12/super 10 may be tough.

If you do go ahead with looking at this truck, find out which C12 it has & what it is rated at. There is some info about them on this board that varies by serial number.

So, if I understand you, Hoof, it had a new engine at 300k. That makes me skeptical plus a C-12 and Super 10 means an ex fleet truck. There are a lot better deals out there right now. Of course, if you can get this thing for a grand.

Have to agree with the other posts here about the T2000. I'm pretty much the W900 or T600 when it comes to Kenworth. There are some good buys on T600 in the Truck Paper. Don't know where you are but check out Quality Truck Sales in Springfield MO. They have some nice T6's and W9's.

I agree with the above posts, if you want a KW go T6 or W9....I don't like the thought of C-12 and Super 10 either, I'd pass on it..
