    Bullydog for MXS Acert

Hi, brand new to the truckers report. I am looking into a Bully Dog tuner for my '05 MXS Acert, but I am hesitant to spend the money because I did a PDI ecm tune and had a lot of driveability issues with it and eventually took my truck into the cat shop and had the ecm reflashed to stock settings. I don't want to waste more money, but I have to do something with the way this truck runs!

You had "driveability" issues with a PDI tune?? Find that hard to believe. You and a fellow that used to be on here are the only ones I have heard say anything bad about a PDI tune. And he was NUTS.
But to answer you I have not heard anything bad about Bully Dog either.

Maybe your "stock"settings sucked to began with. There are a couple post on another thread were two people are having problems with there BD but its on a MBN engine.

I just had a PDI tune done and I cant say nothing but good things about it, but I had also had a few things done before hand too.(no mufflers, fuel wire, re rated from 475 to 550 CAT heavy haul program)
Now my MXS runs like a cat should.

At PDI they took my ecm to a stage 2, it built way to much turbo boost and dumped the wastegate open almost immediately on a pull. Also had some surging issues when trying to downshift. And my check engine light came on immediately after leaving their shop, I went back and they couldn't figure it out. I have to say that when going down the road it did run great!

PDI manifold and a FASS fuel system, 475 uprated to 550 by Cat. I know other people who have a PDI tune and they are happy with it to, don't know what went wrong with mine. I like the sound of the Bully Dog because you can take it in or out yourself, and update the programs.

i think but not sure (ask Mr Haney) with stage2 and up you have to do internal mods for it to work right. cam, injectors i think. just doing the manifold and fass isnt enough.

I know a few people with the both the 475 & 550 base file Stage 2 tunes in both BXS and MXS Acert's and none of them have these issues.

The type of turbo surge you're discribing happens when you pushing large volumes of air and you take the fuel away from the engine quickly. It will happen with a single turbo as well. The only way to control it is lift gently to lower boost slowly, then make your downshift. You have to plan ahead to make downshifts, I actually downshift at the bottom of the grade to the gear I want to go over the top of the mountain in, to keep from having to deal with this type of turbo surge under heavy engine loads. For your truck to be doing this I'd think that the power level was higher than a 550 Stage 2 file. Do you know who worked on your truck? I'm wondering if they flashed the correct file in to it, you should have had Jerad or Shuan re-flash it and try it a second time.

No all I recommend is removing the mufflers, but I recommend that on a stock engine as well.

I've sold a few of the Stage 2 tunes over the years and never had a customer with these type of complaints. All of them gained power and fuel mileage and driveablity. I even have one customer with the newer DPF 600 engine with the DPF delete and 600 base file Stage 2 tune and he absolutely loves it.

What went wqrong with this tune? I don't know. To bring on a check light really makes me wonder........
