Rail select sensor and gear select sensor. Since everything else has been changed, including the harness, I would try these sensors. They are mounted on the x-y shifter, so check to make sure the shifter didn't come with new ones. If the new shifter did come with new sensors, basically your saying everything has been replaced but the main transmission control unit. Maybe this needs a new TCU. If this is the case I would ask your local dealer to contact their local Eaton rep and ask for some help. The dealer should be helping you with this since they have been throwing alot of expensive parts at this with out a proper repair. Maybe the Eaton rep can help you out by supplying a new TCU or some other guidance free of charge.

it's in the shop in Kansas City now and they are ordering the tcu, I just fear that after I shell out the money for this it may not fix the issue...sucks some random guy suggested to me that maybe they should run a ground wire directly from the tranny to the battery and bypass the harness... don't know if that makes sense?

Bad grounds will always cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. An extra ground cable won't hurt! Is Eaton going to help out at all with the price of the parts? They do stand behind their products. I would be surprised if they don't do something for you! In cases like this I try to see if someone has a test TCU you could try for a few days to help confirm if you need one or not. If the problem is still happens after the new TCU I would tell them to take it off and put your old one back on since it didn't fix it!

problem is I'm in Kansas City but I live in Charlotte. They have ordered the tcu and it has to be built. I have been here in a hotel since tuesday night and they are saying that it will be tuesday of next week before the tcu will arrive! and no eaton isn't helping with anything! So if the tcu doesn't work it would be almost impossible for me to bring it back to have old one put back in because I live on the other side of the country and believe me if I finally make it home I am not coming back! Also another driver in another forum said that he changed his oil and it fixed his problem? wondering which oil he was referring to? gear oil? transmission fluid?

Just a little info on the newer auto shift, eaton has a recall on the x-y shifter. The motors are not working properly and causing the tranny to get stuck in gear. It usually happens when downshifts and can also cause a no start issue if the computer doesn't see it is neutral. For a quick fix to get back on the road, pull the fuse for Tcm and let it sit for a minute or two, this will reset the computer and get you going again till the next time it get stuck in gear. Hope this helps some people.

i found a bad positive wire and fixed my starting problems. but i am having the same problems with it getting stuck in gear i talked to kenworth and they dont have a clue. put a new x-y shifter in and new wiring harnesses but it still acts up. rebuilt tranny had 1,250,000 on it, put in a new clutch. eaton rebuilt the t handel for free. so i dont if the tcu is getting bad or a sensor

The older auto shift had the fuse located at the battery's, similar to your ECM fuse on some truck. Also with battery located ones, check the connection, found that to be common problem. On the newer truck, they could be located in the fuse panel or separated fuse block on the fire wall somewhere.

What about the input and output speed sensors? Were these replaced during the rebuild? If the Tcm doesnt detect a input and output speed it won't shift because it does know what speed the shafts are turning at. Do you have any codes?
