Good report..... well written in real world exp. Ironic, I have a 98 CH and they haven't changed the altenator or steering box. Probably a bunch of other things too that I can't see.

I think the Mack rears are 3 or 400lbs heavier than a eaton ds 404's by the dash lay out looks like that truck has the Mack rears with cross locks (thats the set up I would want ) -
thank you for the report. This is exactly the type of info I have been looking for. For the price of new trucks tho, I think I have made the decision to stick with used trucks and save the extra $$$$

Volvo vs Mack..... if they share powertrain, I cant really decide what do I love more....
-
thats pretty easy after you talk to the mechanics at the Mack shop and the Volvo shop, cabs, frame rails, suspision, and rear ends are still diffrent -
seems to me I like Mack more. But to feel difference I need a 500 mile trip. Only after errand I know what cab is better -
I feel the Mack still has the truck feeling, where the Volvo reminds me of their mid-80's station wagons, layout of the dash and all -

I guess it's all about marketing, familiar brands sell locally! Like the old MAN with the big cab, it was called the road haus here in Ireland and in England because it sounded German and in Germany it was called commander because it sounded EnglishSHC Thanks this. -
