theoretically you can remove twin turbo, all emission stuff, DPF and swap ECM with old, for pre emission engines, sell all parts.... but seems to me to purchase pre emission engine and to sell your would be better.

Converting it to a single turbo is a waste of money imo. Take your truck to a reputable shop and get your low boost problem straightened out. Have them replace all the studs. Then give Mr. Haney a call or bullydog. Lots of guys on here are very happy with their acerts afterwards. But the worst thing you can do is start throwing performance tunes at an engine that is not up to par.

    wore out Thanks this.

Fix the low boost, flash the ecm and no red boat anchor is going to touch it. Stop throwing money at it and get someone to find the problem. As far as the breaking studs, good luck. I've broken one manifold bolt and two turbo studs. However I've broken twice that amount on a few 6NZ with single chargers.

So boost is back up closer to 50psi? Just trying to make sure its back to normal before you spend the money on an ECM tune. If so you need to get a PDI flash. If you were closer I've got a MXS and 2 6NZ's with 550 Stage 1 tunes. And I've got several friends with either 5EK's and one with a MBN all with the same 550 Stage 1 tunes you could test drive.

I do a fair amount of these in my shop, I agree with every one that you need to figure out the low boost first. That being said, the process of switching has evovled...meaning the first ones I did we changed everything, cam, injectors, harnesses, rocker boxes etc.....now we just change ECM and leave twins on....If correct flash file is put in and twins are in good shape...( no exhaust wheels eaten up with sleeves :) ) then it works great.....some folks will say you are asking for trouble with the 18:1 compression with no actuators....but I have several running with 80,000 gvw and knock on wood..... they are holding up and customers are pleased. If I am building the engine I will put the lower compression pistons in...but few folks are doing that yet....but by running the 6nz ecm you eliminate the actuators....I am a PDI dealer as well and their ecms work well....figure about $2k for the ecm work with shipping for a PDI....if you want 6nz ecm and leave the twins....it runs about $1400 for BXS if you bring an 2ws/6nz/mbn ecm....for MXS its about $500 more depending on options.

I was woundering I can go to cat and they can turn it to 550 for 500 bits what's the pros and cons to that and the pdi tunes people tell me just go to cat but if it was that easy why ain't everyone just doing that instead of pdi??
