Here in Maine you cant avoid that tax. If you try to register "any" vehicle, they will look at the vin and see unpaid and charge you anyways. I thought it was wrong too when I looked into it. :biggrin_25510:

It's amazing the lack of thought that is at KW right now on the glider issue. Pretty much every other OEM is offering glider kits and the sales are soaring. Heck even the mega fleets are buying gliders...that says a lot. Who wants to place bets that KW will finally get into the glider market a couple of months before they are banned and then claim it was a huge mistake to even get into that market?

Does anyone know if Peterbilt offer a glider for any other model then the 389? The 386 is a sharp looking truck when all decked out!

This looks like its going to happen alot faster than I thought. Hunters calls yesterday to tell me they have a slot open for april but the order has to be in by the end of the day today. I called Hoovers they have time in May to put 1 together. It looks like this may work out very well over all.
I was wanting to kind of enjoy this but at the moment am feeling very rushed. I have a load scheduled to p/u at 11 am its an 1 1/2 form Hunters. I was told it takes about 2 hours to go through and spec a truck, they open at 8. This just adds to the excitment... sorta.

Does Hunters have a website? Are they actually selling you the truck or are you just spec'ing the engine/trans exhaust options from them? The ones I know here ordered the trucks from Peterbilt in Findlay OH, and had Hoovers put them together.

I've never ordered a Pete but the last KW I ordered I sat at the computer with the sales manager and went down every single option that was available. For years we just gave general specs to the saleman and left the rest up to them. Then we found out there were options that none of the salesmen every mentioned. They're used to dealing on price alone so they don't offer the small stuff that really makes things nice, especially if your driving or maintaining it. Like fuel tank straps, not sure what your W9 has but the normal straps are these that suck.

Gravel can get behind the mount and wears holes in the tanks. The rubber under the straps always bunches up. After ordering 5 trucks mostly from the same salesman we found out they offered the wide straps that eliminates that issue. The salesman never mentioned it, we had to see one at another dealer and ask about them. These are 100% better and was less than $500

Not according to Harrison Truck Center near Waterloo, IA that I have been talking with off and on about this. I have 16 pages of spec sheets on a 2013 glider kit complete that shows an invoice price of $105,000. According to them, there was no FET due to fact of rebuilt engine and rebuilt tranny. Fitzgerald Trucks in Crossville, TN says the same thing.

Not sure why they would worry about it. It is a Federal Tax and the state doesn't get it. Now they may have some sort of state equipment tax or similar that could be tacked on. Many other states do nothing about it, so I guess it is a case of base plating the truck outside of Maine.

Hunters is a Pete dealer I was going to buy the glider from them and have Hoovers put it together. But we could not get everything ironed out this morning and we only had till this afternoon to get it done. So it looks like it's back to October. Actually makes me feel better I was not wanting to rush this. Faster than oct would be nice but I not desperate.

I feel the same. I have been talking with Harrison Truck Center off and on about a glider and spec'ing it out. I am taking my time before I pull the trigger. But that is the way anyone should do it whether they are buying a glider or a regular production truck. There is no need to hurry. The dealer will still be there.
