Pete 379 Or 387

Yes, another one or the other question. I know they aren't really in the same class and probably draw different people but I like them both and was just wondering what one has over the other beyond the obvious. Never driven a 387 do they ride as nice as a 379? etc, etc, etc.

You won't be able to get a 379 after this year. the 379 will cost you around $10k a year more in fuel than the other all things being the same. With fuel prices the numbers just don't add up for the 379. I love them have owned something like 20 of them in the past between my father and I. It just doesn't work. fans of the 379 will talk about resale and it's true they will bring more at sale time but not enough to make up for the fuel costs

Have you seen the new 389 (the 379's replacement)? It is still, unmistakeably a Pete, however, they smoothed out most of the hard edges to make it more aerodynamic. I like it, but would still go for the 387, because of its better aerodynamics.

Funny, I don't think it looks anything like a pete. Not that I don't like it but it's no 379

I love the 387, it's my all time favorite. I love the interior, its fits my height. My only complaint, it doesn't have as much storage space as the truck I drove before it which was the Kenworth T-2000, but then again I travel light so no big deal. I have never driven a 379, so I can't really compare the 2. I learned driving the bubble nose types and thats what I plan on sticking with.

You might be thinking about the 386 - It's sort of got the nose of a 387 and the cab and sleeper of a 379.... The 389 is almost identical to the 379 but the nose is 4 inches longer, the corners of the nose are slightly rounded, and it's got new re-styled projector headlights. Truck Paper.com has a few pics. Just click on the 389 link in the Peterbilt category.

No I know the truck. I may have been overly harsh but it's just the headlights I can't get over. it looks like an international. I havn't seen it in person but the pics look like they arn't as easily removed either. not sure there though.
either way though, my point about the classics fuel numbers not adding up will still hold true to the 386, it won't be getting much if any better fuel milage

Oh, I appologize for that. Those headlights will supposedly put like 150% more light on the road than previous versions (just in case that's a major concern). Anyway, I like em' so if you pay $140,000 plus for one of those trucks and want to get rid of the headlights let me know HA !!!!!!!!!!!

no I'm done with the classics. I love them but the numbers just don't add up. once upon A time I could afford to livefor my truck but these days I have a family. I'm looking to the sero trucks these days. Considering a T2000 right now. 10 years ago I ran for $1 per mile with my 379's when fuel was $.85 now it's $2.50 and most the companies I'm finding to lease to are paying less than $1 per mile. kinda makes you think twice

It should definitely make everyone think twice!
I say keep looking till you find that co that will pay you closer to $2 per mile (or more). Then at least you're not busting #$$ for less money than co drivers make.
