You'd get better fuel economy if you have 3.58 rear gear in that truck. This is of course assuming you are running regular loads (80K lbs or less) to Cali and back. With those 3.90's you'll be running higher RPMs in top gear and therefore your mpg will suffer.
My company VNL670, with a 400hp ISX and fuller 10 spd was getting right around 7mpg, with the truck governed to 68 mph (and with 3.58 rears).

Do you NEED that kind of power? Most big fleets are running 400 hp engines (usually turned down in software from 460-475 hp). Yeah, my Volvo also gets around 6-7 mpg at 66 mph. If you run alot of I-5 south-to-north and vice versa in CA, other than the Grapevine, you dont need all that power!!

Altho, I admit, I like to have in reserve!! LOL
