Tank Truck Single drive axle w/ sleeper?

I've seen a hand full of rigs set up like this pulling horse trailers and such, and after the trouble i've had with my mercedes powered freightliner m2-106 im looking for something a bit more capable. where would be a good place to start researching these setups? most of the pulling i will be doing will be regionals, typically within 500-600 miles of our shop. any help would be much appreciated

Check with Ryder sales of used trucks . These tractors are used mostly by furniture manufacturers , corrugate cardboard companies , and LTL carriers for pulling double pups .

We had a bunch of S/A T2000 that worked well, then we went to twinscrew T 2000, we JUST took del. of 8 Cascadia S/A sleepers.

    For us the pluses are,

    less to maintain
    less tire costs
    better MPG
    better turn radius
    lighter weight

You will NEVER go back to a medium duty truck after a class 7/8, The problem is trying to find DECENT S/A sleepers, most of the old Roadway,ABF,or rental truck fleets are steel wheels, roll up windows, and are pretty basic trucks, if that is all you need then they will work.

BUT if you want something nice they are harder to come by, just depends on what you want to spend. JMHO

turning radius is key for us... we deliver to schools with very small parking lots and maneuvering a trailer is tricky at best. i'm not against buying new if i have to, but used would be more my speed... do all major brands actually have single sleepers out there? seems like the vast majority of the used trucks i see are older freightliners...

Every company makes a single axle sleeper truck. 95% if the used trucks will have tandem axles, so it may take some time to source matching units. I would call Penske and Ryder.

We have done that in the past, BUT if you run in a lot of bad weather it is nice to have the locker on the S/A

How would the locker benefit a single axle truck?

it never really clicked to pull the second drive axle...that does give me a bit to play with as far as optional trucks out there... now you have me thinking, which is probably not a good thing lol
