I heard through the grape vine that they bought a new technology that involves urea blocks and you change them at every PM. EGR and SCR are for controlling NOx which is a side affect of high combustion temps. DPFs or diesel particulate filters are for soot, unburnt fuel, and the regen system is there for burning off the soot to ash when the dpf get high soot levels. And unfortunately DPFs are not going to leave. It is the only technology available right now that meets the EPA regulations. I would rather work on a 6nz 5ek or even a bxs mxs then a sdp lee c7s or ct13 ct15

I wish Intl would add the cummins option back to its line up again. Might be a solution and get an increase in truck sales. I think CAT will reenter the engine Class 8 market again in 3-5yrs. They have the technology to come up with a better engine than the existing 13lt maxxforce that Intl currently offers.

I think you are right on CAT re-entering the market at some point.

Yep. They bought into a Dutch company, Amminex, a couple of years ago. Amminex developed the block urea idea and is using it in Europe for several applications. I read articles about it back then, and if you do a search on Amminex and Navistar, the articles will pop up. I would have thought Navistar would have had this in the hopper for 2010, and still be able to tout their "no effort for the driver" idea that they have touted all along for using AEGR. Evidently the brain activity at Navistar was lacking. But, I would be willing to bet that this block urea concept is what will eventually materialize. When you read about it from Amminex, it really makes sense and seems to be a far better concept. No urea tanks, no plumbing and hoses to goof up, etc. Just a cartridge, that like you stated, gets changed at regular service intervals. And, the cartridges have NO shelf life, and a spare cartridge could be carried on the truck for an emergency with none of the hassles of spilling and corrosion that can happen with DEF.

According to recent articles on the Navistar/EPA issue, Navistar claims it is going to use, what they call, ICT+ technology. They are not saying exactly what it is, but my dollar is on the block urea idea and Navistar doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet.

Just updating this thread with the latest announcement from NAVISTAR. They said they wouldn't, but looks like you will be able to get a Cummins in a Prostar. They'll keep making the MAXFORCE as well and fix its deficiencies with Cummins add on technology. Note that the Cummins exec states that they are working on a "memorandum of understanding". Doesn't sound like all the bugs are worked out of the arrangement yet.

So, I will be able to soon go out and get me a brand new CAT truck with an international engine that has Cummins emissions technology keeping it running and legal? Pretty funky. I don't bet, but I'm starting to get the feeling CAT has to make a move back into the game.

Actually a lot of engine manufactures are using Cummins Emission Solutions for their after treatment systems. Not only that but their also using cummins turbo technologies to.

I wish them all well. I'll stick with pre-egr in a brand new 2013 glider truck.

Yes that will be nice but you can't go to the ports and soon you won't be allowed in California. Depending on what you haul, it may not matter. What kind of glider and engine did you get?

Yeah, I'm all broke up about not going to CA. But then, I don't go west of I-25. For that matter, I don't go to either coast. Haven't been to a port since 1996, and not to CA since '99. And since '99, my territory is primarily Nebraska to Ohio, I-40 to the Canadian border. Nothing outside that area I need to haul or see. And the beauty of it all... if I am ever in a position that someone wants me to take something to CA, it will be easy to say no.

Picking up my 2013 Columbia glider Monday morn. Detroit DDEC IV 60 500 hp. Pics here.....

Where to buy glider kits, engine, etc.
