Air leaking from the Turbo acuator??
Here is the scoop......I have a 2004 Volvo with the ISX cummins in it. The actuator, believe it is called the air cup, for the turbo is leaking air. The air is leaking around the valve that has the wires attached to it. Last time I was hone I had that valve replaced and it was good for 2 days before it started leaking around the valve again. This actuator has a air filter, looks like a oil filter on a car, on the bottom of it. If this filter was plugged would it cause the air to come out of the valve like it does, or would this be more something geared towards the turbo?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Tim

That valve and little filter is basically just an electric air solenoid, (actuator). When they leak it is because the seals inside are bad allowing air to leak out the exhaust, or even a cracked housing. When that series of ISX first came out the actuator had that little filter on it. This was eliminated shortly after to just the actuator. I believe the ones with the filter are no longer available and you would have to update to the newer style. Unfortunately, these actuators are not serviceable. Cummins does not make a repair kits. Replacement is all you can do. Even worse, they are about $1000 new. Even used are well over $500 to buy.

Just be happy with a Cummins you can replace just the actuator, on a Detroit you must replace the entire turbo!

It ended up being the filter needed replaced. The "O" ring on the filter was so dry rotted it was all cracked up. Replaced the filter and all was good.
