alternative fuel?for mech engine?
was wondering how would an old cat 425 3406b engine take to be running off an alternative fuel like bio diesel? is it worth it?
i know the newer engines have problems with the elsctronics and clogging injectors how would this work on my old school cat engine?
please dont knock my post just asking.

Had a 3406b, it loved used fry oil and used peanut oil that had been filtered, 60% diesel and 40% used oil.

Don't want to be devils advocate, but I can't see any problems. It's a mechanical motor with precombustion chambers an direct injection. No sensors no ecm's and what the heck. Give it a try, old motors love the extra lubricant in the fuel.

well i knew an oldman who used to run straight burnt used oil into an older volovo WIA with a n14 red top in it that thing is still running lol.
how would you filter this oil? and would it need to be a 60/40 mix? i dont mind trying the issue is were to get it and how to filter it. only fry oil and peanut oil?
also would i need to run a different type of filtration system due to the fact the filter might be more restrictive or less.

Pre filter the oil with two three micron filters first, I had a good home made system I used.
60/40 mix is easy. for every six gallons of diesel just ad 4 gallons of filtered oil.
No fancy blending needed

I assume it would have an adverse effect on the service intervals, seeing to the fact that the fuel used has a higher carbon content? how would gear oil influence the lubricating characteristics of the fuel. I can only think that gear oil would be more difficult to burn of than vegetable oil or used engine oil.

B models are not pre combustion engines. I think you would be fine with the B20 that is available around most areas. The only real problem that I have heard of is that engines with older rubber seals in the fuel system may have issues due to the reaction between the fuel and rubber.
