| It's situational. Heavily loaded or starting to pull a grade at low speed, I'll usually opt for the clutch between gears. Rest of the time, I float. It's a decision you make each time you shift, and your experience guarantees that it will be the right one for that particular moment. And I still don't do online polls.... |

| Yep, it is shifting without using the clutch. If I am feeling lazy I will float, but like Burky said, if you are heavy, then it is best to double clutch. |

| I float. That was the way I was taught. I double clutched to get my CDL, but still fail to see why it's necessary. I can see it would help for upshifting, with a heavy load, allowing a quicker shift, but other wise it seems pointless. Clutching or not in most trucks the RPM still has to be matched.
