Would it be giving me these symptons? -
I have a 12.7 in a 93 pete, had wierd things going on such as low voltage high water temps etc. The ground cables go to the starter from the batterys, we found the starter was not grounding well to the block, put a cable from the starter to the block cured the problems and lowered water temp reading 20 degrees

We have alot of salt on our roads in the winter, rust between the starter and the block ,the alternator would put out 14 volts when grounding the meter to the block, we checked it at the batterys and would have 12volts that is how we tracked it down to the starter grounding.

Checked the batteries and cables all were tight and fine. Ground to the frame was fine as well. I'll see what it does this week on me and get back. But could it really be the gauge pod itself??...I just feel like that's too easy cuz everything has to be a pain in the ###.

Well it's still doing it guys. I'm gonna try replacing the low coolant level (overflow tank) sensor. If that doesn't do it I'll try replacing the gauge pod itself and if that still doesn't do it ill know its an electrical issue. Or Computer? The gauge seems to love to freak out pulling this certain hill going into Portland and then as I coast down the other side for a couple miles the gauge just won't read accurate and float around. Does anyone think its the gauge pod itself?
What I've tried:
Replaced water temperature sensor/sending unit (same thing)
Checked batteries/cables
Checked water temp sensor wires along with numerous others including ECM ones for any obvious damaged wires
Truck had bars leak put in it awhile ago. Could that be causing it?
Actually it worked fine after bars leak. I feel like it may have started after the coolant was all drained out and then added back in. Could the shop have caused an air pocket? How do you get air out of the systemLast edited: Mar 13, 2013

Alright I replaced the Low Coolant Level Sensor (in the overflow tank) today. We'll see what that does...if its still doing it I may try the gauge pod and then I'm done messing with it. Cuz then it's gotta be an electrical issue...

Did that fix it? No post makes me assume so, but seems weird that would have caused the issue, and, you know what happens when we assume!!!

Im having the same issue on Cat C-15, temps for coolant and oil went way beyond 250, when the driver shut the vehile off and turned it back on it was back to normal. Onlh does it when loaded. I have checked the intake air temp sensor, fuel temp sensor and coolant temp sensor. The sensors arw fine. I know that these run the same ground but still cant find anything here at the shop. If anyone has run into this on a cat let me know. Thanx.
