Only 1500 to 2000 6NZ / 9NZ engines ever made it to New Zealand they are hard to come by any crashed truck gets snapped up quick and top Doller is payed for the engine, most people pay 6/7k AU in australia for a core engine with dropped liner or other problems , as that is what cat give you as a core for a reman engine.

Just picked up a 00 KW with a 6NZ (475hp), seems significantly stronger than our 96 pete with a 5EK (455hp). I believe i am correct is saying the 6NZ can go to a 550 with only a ECM flash correct? Can the 455hp 5EK be flashed to a 550 without changing any parts?

yes 6nz can go to 550 with just a flash on the 5ek some can some cant depends on the parts list

Old thread I know but thought I'd revive it for a few that are wondering what the different CAT motors are. I'll add I get a good 6mpg in my 03 379 with the 6nz at 550hp. Just under a million and strong as hell. No oil leaks either I might add. I love this truck and motor and like someone else here said, I'll keep rebuilding before I ever buy anything else.
