Ford F-150 with a CAT diesel!

I was arguing with some import lovers on a Ford forum. And I'm going to link this thread to their forum. Can you guys tell them what CAT's reputation is? They where telling me that there is not a demand for CAT's outside of constuction equipment, and that CAT was being forced out of the semi market! I want a Caterpillar diesel in my F-150! The Internationals that they use now are junk! Here are my renditions of a F-150 powered by CAT! ford-f-150-with-cat-diesel-catf-150.jpg

I wonder where they get their info. Obviously they have no clue at all what they are talking about.

Rumor-control

I heard a rumor from a CAT employee that in 5 years CAT would stop making semi engines and John Deer will start producing the engines for CAT.

I frankly have a hard time believing that. Although I was equally surprised when Ford bought out Cummings.

That was Crystler. What a waste of time, I never ran a cummins with enough power to get out of it's own way!

Ford does not own cummins. Thats an internet myth. At the most Ford ever owned was 5% of Cummins. Best of my knowledge they own none now. For one thing, HAD Ford owned Cummins they would have been using that engine.

And I aint buying that story about 5 yrs CAT is out of the truck market.

I'm not buying that any F-150 has enough front suspension underneath it to support the weight of any diesel engine, Cat or otherwise......

Ford has owned a pretty decent percentage of Cummins for quite a while now.Not a majority, but a small percentage. I heard they were giving it up, but hadn't heard if it was a done deal or not. They use Navistar engines in their trucks due to a contract agreement between them and Navistar, and Cummins has an agreement with Dodge.

Ford has their hands in a ton of companies, and has for a very long time.

While I can dream of having a CAT in a Ford or a Chevy.

I can tell you without a doubt that is total BS. Unless CAT intends to totally bail on the "engine" side of product developement, and just hand it over to JD.

Case in point: John Deere approached Toro several years back regarding a 2 cycle engine Toro had developed to meet 2007 EPA standards. John Deere did not have one, not even a prototype. Toro had a fully functional engine about to go in production for their product line. They had more than 2 years in the developement of this engine. All was going well in the negotiations UNTIL John Deere wanted Toro to pay THEM for painting the engine green and putting the JD logo on. Cost $125 per engine. We're talking about 5 hp lawnmower engines !!!!!

Never mind the fact the SOB's didn't have an engine of their own. They were arrogant enough to think that someone would pay them to use their engines in their frames.

The deal fell through.

I was just repeating what I had heard from a Cummins dealer. I wonder if there is any way to look it up.

When will Ford get the B Series engine for their pickups? Currently, the Dodge/Cummins and the Ford/Navistar agreements are set for the next several years. No announcements have been published, by either company, to change engine suppliers.

Does Ford own Cummins? No, Ford does not own any part of Cummins Inc.
