Blew head gasket on my 07 MXS C15 550 on cylinder #2, liner dropped so will have to cut that hole, shim it etc... should I be checking liners in 5 other holes or is it safe to just fix #2, this is on a 4yr unlimited mile warranty, hole #2 will be covered but not the others, i will most likely have to pay for the liners and machinig on those holes, I have 2 yrs warranty left, Going to see service manager tomorrow to discuss about 5 other holes so any feedback would be awesome

Well I would wait to see what they look like but if you have two years remaining warranty I wouldn't stick my neck out too far. The mechanic who pulls the head will be more than glad to replace all 6 on warranty if he thinks they are a problem.

Cat will only replace whats broke and will not pay for extra machining, they sometimes go good on hole next to problem hole but definately wont go good on 6 holes if only liner #2 has dropped. Machining all other holes will run me about 800-1000 canadian, liners will be about 120 for those not covered in hole 2, extra odds and ends.... probably around $2000, all the rest will be covered by CAT, Warranty Rep says he might be able to get All liners covered...what a headache

I'd just pay the extra 2k and get it all done. It's cheaper now then it will be later, and you have peace of mind knowing it was done correctly.

I assume they will cut and shim #2 and put it back together. In the warranty world that probably is their option unless the mechanic feels it is an issue then let the warranty rep take it from there. Like I said before I wouldn't volunteer anything until the final word is out, and then make the decision. I would run it on number two myself with a new spacer and reman head no longer than the other liners have been in there. If the other liners are out of spec height wise they probably didn't do it right the first time and I don't think that should cost you.

cat specs are, lets just say very loose on liner protrusion. insist on the higher end of the spec for all six. or it will come back and bite you in the pocket book again. get a cat rep involved and argue to the bitter end. one way to not incure the cost is to ask for the report for the liner height that has to be filled out when they did the overhaul. if there isn't one you got them by the (jewels) went through the same thing once. they ended up doing all six at no cost to me!

If they only cut #2 cyl. You should insist on the .003" thinner spacer plate!!! It will bring all of the liners up to .006" to .007" protrusion. That is much more dependable than the .003" to .004" you will get with the std spacer plate!!!!!!!!!
